Just finished the pilot. A few heavy-handed moments and some obvious cliches (I couldn't help rolling my eyes at Bruce's skyward scream), but the show looks to have potential. I'll be tuning in again next week. Anyone else watching?

Gotham is an American crime television series developed by Bruno Heller, based on characters appearing in and published by DC Comics in their Batman franchise, primarily those of Detective James Gordon and Bruce Wayne. The series stars Ben McKenzie as the young Gordon. Heller is the executive producer along with Danny Cannon, who also directed the pilot. Gotham received a series order from Fox on May 5, 2014, and premiered on September 22, 2014. As originally conceived, the series would have served as a straightforward story of Gordon's early days on the Gotham City police force. The idea evolved not only to include the Bruce Wayne character, but will also tell the origin stories of several Batman villains, including Penguin, Riddler, Catwoman, Joker, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow, Hugo Strange, Harvey Dent, Mr. Freeze and Victor Zsasz. The first season order consisted of 16 episodes, which was later extended to a total of 22. Synopsis A new recruit in Captain Sarah Essen's Gotham City Police Department, Detective James Gordon is paired with Harvey Bullock to solve one of Gotham's highest-profile cases: the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne. During his investigation, Gordon meets the Waynes' son Bruce, now in the care of his butler Alfred Pennyworth, which further compels Gordon to catch the mysterious killer. Along the way, Gordon must confront mobstress Fish Mooney, mafia led by Carmine Falcone, as well as many of Gotham's future villains such as Selina Kyle, Edward Nygma, and Oswald Cobblepot. Eventually, Gordon is forced to form an unlikely friendship with Wayne, one that will help shape the boy's future in his destiny of becoming a crusader.

  4. Yeah, I heard about that. Not sure if I'm on board with Wonder Woman being portrayed as DC's answer to Thor, but I suppose it further defines her as a force to be reckoned with, albeit with the pacifist roots of the character almost certainly falling by the wayside. Her godlike powers could be depicted really well on film, which should add a dash of spectacular fantasy to what promises to be a dark and gritty movie.

Everybody! Don't blame it on Seb Larsson Don't blame it on Van Aanholt Don't blame it on Mannone Blame it on Vergini He just can't, he just can't, he just can't control his feet (etc.) Thankfully not, although I was watching online. Whether it's really worth trying to make sense of such a shellacking, or to reach a logical conclusion as to why we capitulated so horrendously, I'm not sure, suffice to say that it was absolutely appalling. Nothing short of total commitment will be acceptable to the fans on Saturday - we’ll find out during the game if Poyet and the players have learned from the defeat and are able to repair some of the damage, or if we have yet another long, hard season ahead of us. Fingers crossed that it's the former. On the bright side, anything less than 8-0 will represent progress.

  11. This just became an even bigger spin of the roulette wheel. Building on the platform created by Arrow and Flash and launching the Justice League continuity from a position of increased strength should have been a no-brainer. If there's any kind of silver lining, it's that they've shown interest in giving Wonder Woman her own movie. Initially, when Gadot was first cast, I was concerned that they were treating an iconic female character (not to mention one of the few genuine A-listers DC has to offer) as an afterthought. Happy to see that's not the case.

Chances are Poland's win against Germany will make the group even more difficult for Scotland, although I suppose to be fair, any group would have been difficult for Scotland. Setbacks too for Holland, Bosnia, Spain and Portugal in their respective groups. What with Monday's defeat to Iceland and trailing for ages against Kazakhstan on Friday, the Dutch in particular look to be in a spot of bother. Wasn't this Euro 2016 qualification lark meant to be easy?

  14. Those new promo shots are such a stark (arf!) contrast to the ones from the first season. Nerdy ties and Converse used to be the order of the day, now it's all beards and leather. Season two isn't starting until the 24th of October here in the UK but apparently, waiting that extra few weeks will enable Channel 4 to air it in an unbroken weekly run, which I guess is a fair trade-off.
  15. The video Coco posted to announce her pregnancy wouldn't have looked out of place in 'American Horror Story'.
