Blade Runner 2049
I'm still not sure how I feel about this. They’ve a director there in Denis Villeneuve who, if given enough freedom, could certainly produce an original and thought-provoking piece, but I can't help thinking that some things are just best left alone. Blade Runner (one of my all time favourites too) was such a phenomenal self-contained story that it doesn’t need to become a franchise. I’d much rather see Ridley Scott focus on doing something original than have a hand in placing the legacy of his most seminal work on the chopping block.

Suicide Squad (2016)
There'll be no tatts for Jared Leto's Joker after all, apparently. Bravo for getting people talking about it, I guess? I'm half expecting Leto to be playing Harley Quinn now.

Carver always was a bit of a curious case. He's been at Newcastle for some time now and is obviously more qualified than most, but his attitude somehow remains that of the textbook pub loudmouth. If ever there was someone in football who looks like he'd call one of those radio phone-in shows to howl about the state of his club, it's him. And most bizarrely of all, you still wouldn't rule out the possibility of Ashley handing him the job next season.

Gundogan is brilliant, his ability to accurately pass under pressure is simply wonderful. If Pep's gang go out against Barca, it leaves him with just the league instead of that much sought-after treble. Not exactly 'next level' stuff.

Football
I don't mean to alarm anyone, but we appeared to be playing actual football at times today. A hard-fought point that could easily have been all three. Results elsewhere didn't exactly go according to plan, but we've no control over that. It's all about what we do in these next two home games. Beat Leicester and it's right back in our hands (as long as we're still within touching distance by then), lose and we're hanging by a thread.

Suicide Squad (2016)
David Ayer has released the first official image of Jared Leto's Joker. As much as he has the manic facial expressions down and the right eyes, it feels a bit too 'in your face' to me. Take off the tattoos, especially the atrocious forehead one, and I'd like it a lot more. I always picture the Joker as an extremely dapper guy and someone who likes to give off an air of sophistication. That contradiction between his physical appearance and the way he carries himself makes him so unpredictable, and in turn, a lot scarier. By outwardly projecting the look of a street thug instead, they're stripping away one of the layers that make him so interesting. P.S. I've seperated all the Suicide Squad talk from the Batman vs Superman stuff. I figure after the above reveal, the movie could use its own topic.

Commiserations, Hervé. Young Oulare looks a real prospect, another Belgian with an incredible future. The recent disdain shown for the Europa League by Mauricio Pochettino annoyed me on so many levels. Looking at the teams in the semi finals this year, you'd have to say at least three of them would be tremendously exciting to play against. Doubly so, I would have thought, when the alternative is getting barbecued in the Champions League's group stages.

X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)
I suspect that the next time we see Rogue onscreen it’ll be with someone new in the role, which would be a bit of a shame really, because I'd prefer to see Anna given another shot. I suppose to be fair, one of the reasons why she never became ‘badass’ Rogue was probably that the accompanying storyline from the books would have been hard to do without eating up a considerable chunk of the movie. They would have needed to dedicate as much time to it as they did to the Jean Grey/Phoenix arc in 'Last Stand', which obviously, you can't do for everyone.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
It's always hard to tell from a trailer, and I never like to judge movies based on their promo materials. I just think you have to play to your characters' strengths, and laying artificial sheen on this thick for the duration of the running time would be a massive hindrance to showcasing Superman and his powers. I quite liked the Wonder Woman gear when it was first revealed, but it’s remarkable how much better it looks with just that little extra splash of colour. The Supersuit isn’t bad, although it could probably use something distinct to break up all the blue. A bit of red in the centre or around the arms like his ‘New 52’ suit has wouldn't have gone amiss. The Batsuit is a real achievement. It looks like it just stepped straight out of the comics, in a good way.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
I suppose my problem is that I strongly associate Superman with brightness, scope and magnitude, which is pretty much the exact opposite of what's in the trailer. The cinematography has a weird, muddy, nightmarish aesthetic to it and the colour palette makes it look muted and almost claustrophobic. That being said, it’s a mix-up of random images and soundbites from a movie that's another year away from being released, and the finished product could well be completely different from what we've seen so far. I just hope the dark, desaturated tones and metallics aren't the only type of backdrop that we're going to get.
