There is a bit of Twin Peaks in there, but Lynchs show was more obviously not supposed to take place in any close aproximation of the real world. There are some hints of magic realism in True Detective as well (e.g. the flock of birds forming the pattern just before they enter the ruined church) but it isn't drenched in that stuff like Twin Peaks was. As a side note, the stash house sequence was a masterful bit of film-making. It featured a single cut that was nearly six minutes long. Pretty impressive stuff. Agreed. Though there is one dating habit that does baffle me: all the models who have had a fling with Adam Levine. Beyond his obvious doucheyness, after all this time, the girls must know the score? So what exactly is the appeal in being the 23rd model that earns him a notch on his belt? It's not like these women don't have plenty of other good-looking and/or wealthy men to choose from.

This show has really gotten shit. It's not a new development, but each time you think they have reached a new low, they did even deeper... Shame too, because the first half dozen episodes were really great.

The only reason Irina is there is that Olympics in her own country happens once in the life time and it's huge honor to represent the country she was born and it's nothing has to do with stupid politics or her modeling career. F_ck the politics & just enjoy sport. I'm sorry, but I find very little stupid or boring about politics that exist solely to deny a certain group of people their right to exist. I also don't think I'm saying anything earth-shattering by mentioning that the fashion industry owes much to gay people, or that members of the LGBT community are very well represented in it. So if I were a gay designer, model, photographer, stylist, ... who has worked with Irina in the past and I see her representing a regime that denies my sexual preference even should exist, I might take some offense. Her involvement leaves me a bit with a bad taste in my mouth. The Sochi Olympics have a bad connotation in terms of human rights and especially the treatment of the LGBT community. Someone who owes much of her wealth and fortune to the fashion industry should not allow herself to be used as a propaganda vessel for that government.
