BIO Walking the fine line between voyeurism and participation, Lina Scheynius photographs scenes from her daily life in an honest and casual manner. Her photographs of friends, lovers, flowers, and herself critique the systemic notions of the passive and objectified female as they portray fleeting moments in a visual diary that represents the very personal and the current societal climate. Images like Untitled (Diary) (2013) demonstrate a distinct sexual connotation and purposely dignified nudity that conveys the female gaze. Her series, such as “Lust” and “Diary” (both 2009), take the viewer inside the intimate moments of Scheynius’s life. She has had a photo…

In his photographs, Roe Ethridge uses the real to suggest—or disrupt—the ideal. Through commercial images of fashion models, products, and advertisements, as well as intimate moments from his own daily life, he reveals the fine line between the generic and the personal, merging art-historical genres such as the still life or portrait with the increasingly pervasive image culture of the present. Born in Miami, Ethridge received a BFA from the Atlanta College of Art in 1995. He moved to New York City two years later and began working as a commercial photographer. During this time, he was producing a series that catalogued trees on highway medians, seeking to app…

In the rarefied atmosphere of fashion photography, Richard Burbridge's unconventional photographs are a breath of fresh air. The UK native, who is part of the furniture at design bible i-D, has brought his hyper-attenuated eye and perfectionism to Harper's Bazaar, W and French Vogue. Burbridge is also noted for his penetrating portraits of celebrities such as Sean Penn and Iggy Pop, as well as designers Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Jeremy Scott. Here, the typically taciturn shutterbug opens up to Lee Carter about cover-worthy winks, Christmas tree kinks, and other high fashion hijinks. vogue italia, september 2005 pictorial lily cole and marina dias …

Nick Knight (photographer) Nick Knight is a British photographer and Director of SHOWstudio.com. He is known for his personal, experimental vision, resulting in work that exists outside the conventions of fashion photography. Early career Knight's first book of photographs, Skinhead, was published in 1982, when he was a 24-year-old photography student at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design. He was then commissioned by i-D editor Terry Jones to create a series of 100 portraits for the magazine's fifth anniversary issue. As a result of those black-and-white portraits, his work caught the attention of art director Marc Ascoli, who commissioned Knight to shoot the…

Paolo Roversi :wub2: briliant* tho all his work is like a romantic drama all happening in a dream, me personaly i adoreee him. Born in Ravenna in 1947, Paolo Roversi’s interest in photography was kindled as a teenager during a family vacation in Spain in 1964. Back home, he set up a darkroom in a convenient cellar with another keen amateur, the local postman Battista Minguzzi, and began developing and printing his own black & white work. The encounter with a local professional photographer Nevio Natali was very important: in Nevio’s studio Paolo spent many many hours realising an important apprenticeship as well as a strong durable friendship.
