They mean her ethnic background. I've always wondered myself... For a while I thought Native American, maybe mixed with Italian or Greek, some Slavic... I can't find an answer either!

What exactly does "American" look like? You do know that being an American is a nationality... not a race, right? Nationality has to do with where you are born, not how you look. You can be Asian, Black, Latin, or Pacific Islander and be an American.
