The kate upton shoot was ok imho- although I thought she looked better before the weight loss. Vita's videos are the best of the bunch- her pictures are ok. This is the worst SI magazine ever
February 14, 20187 yr The headlines of the "serious" newspapers in France over the past days... - there's too much rain - there's really too much rain - now it's snowing (OMG! It's cold in winter! And there's snow. Holy shit, how shocking! ) - a minister is accused of abuse (but it's a former investigation that was dismissed) - the kids of a dead rockstar sue their mother-in-law for the inheritance - another minister is accused of abuse (without accusers, just because there's a rumor and a former investigation that was dismissed) - too much sugar is not good for your health (probably the only "interesting" news ) When is the wake-up? Spoiler

February 15, 20187 yr ^ Very true Spoiler BTW, I'm starting to think that Walter Sobchak can be a SI Swimsuit model if he changes sex There's no reason he can't do it
February 23, 20187 yr @elfstone Pretty much everyone who isn't into WW2 Eastern front or is Ukrainian/Estonian don't know that they still wave SS flags in nationalist oriented parades, groups and gatherings until this day. It is not to honor the SS but their people who fought in these unit banners. This is because as the Soviets moved westward, the patriots of these countries saw that the only way to effectively resist was to join the Waffen-SS in 14th SS division. There was also a Waffen SS division of Estonians. There was an Estonian war movie made about it about two or three years ago. It's pretty weird. The Russians like to call all their political enemies "nazis" - eg. in the Ukraine- and exploit this fact. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/14th_Waffen_Grenadier_Division_of_the_SS_(1st_Galician)
February 25, 20187 yr I don't really like Ratajkowski, but what "Twitter" reproached her is ridiculous... So, in Twitter's law, saying that "hair is important for women" is a "serious offense" https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/emily-ratajkowski-instagram-post-caption_us_5a566314e4b03bc4d03d8358 Twitter is really a useless bird... And, it's pointless to be pc, because there will always be someone to think you're not pc enough... Spoiler

Reveal hidden contents Follow up on the headlines of our "very serious" newspapers over the past days: - it's cold again (OMG! It's cold in winter...) I read a paper saying "it's very cold, it's a record.... since 2005!" (Coldest since 13 years is a record now?) - a politician badmouths other politicians (very interesting) - the president go to the agriculture salon and the media talk about how he talked to another guy ("was he polite enough?" is the only question raised). Oh, the content is not important (agriculture policies, free trade agreements, etc.), no one cares... - still the story of the rockstar Johnny's kids (now it's his ex-wives' stories) ... and so on

So, either I'm still a young fool who can't grasp all the deep wisdom in the main media, or I'm too old for this shit... Reveal hidden contents It kind of makes me sad actually... I used to love reading newspapers I could write a page about this.. To sum it up, I think it's a better use of time to study the subjects that you are interested in and see media as 95% repetitive bullshit, like Alonzo:
March 4, 20187 yr On 1/29/2018 at 6:31 PM, Enrico_sw said: So, you think it's all about the money. Probably, yes... Reveal hidden contents Still, I think that corporate "marketing departments" can be wrong (like really wrong). It's not an exact science, they do "trial and error", and sometimes they are blinded by their own blah blah (and in some industries, market players have sheep-like behaviours; so, it's difficult for them to get out of their world) "PC" is also just a way for fancy people, in certain environments, to maintain their social status. The more they worship their sacred PC idols, the more they think that they will be a part of something. It's quite obvious with some actors. I don't think it's all about money, but rather that it's the underlying artery. If you trace where the money is moving around, you see something more tangible than the staff and freelancers who produce this content, usually with marginal sources, no depth of learning/personal qualifications, and under stiff deadlines. Their goal is usually to generate clickbait and entertain, or serve as propaganda organs for their backers... not to inform. I have the impression that a lot of people who have studied creative writing know how to use linguistics to trigger emotions in readers (without them noticing). That's a trait of a good writer. But entertainment is separate from quality information most of the time. This is why there are newsletter services that trim the fat off of the news. I see the US media as essentially a circus with some semblance or order- like fashion. While it sets the frame and the agendas of the day, reality is cold blooded. Reality is just there, and it can just as easily be ignored. If a person is interested in reality, they need to hit the books, and come back to the media with their new eyes. eg. If you know a certain subject to the deepest level, and then read the news on it, you suddenly realize that a lot of it was actually drivel, and a waste of time. But without the personal experience and/or training, it seems like you're getting educated and you scoop it up. And it's a poor quality one at that. It's better to be ignorant than to spend time learning some bullshit lies. At a certain level, the mainstream media also has to cater to the prejudices of people, ingrained since childhood. Their societal programming, so to speak. So if a person is educated at Roman Catholic schools, they end up being a right wing. Public schools? Left wing indoctrination. I kind of understand how you find the newspapers annoying. I found them annoying and repetitive by my mid- 20s and started unlearning a lot of falsehoods that were transmitted to me after that (along with societal programming). After a few years, the contractions start to pile up.
March 4, 20187 yr Also, the thought leaders of the media remind me of some downfalls I observed in my 14 years of being part of the military history research community. -Contributors, being human and with their limited time and thus learning, tended to focus on certain areas while ignoring others. When they ignored these areas, while being hyper-focused on one area...they tended to miss out on the linkages and change of the bigger picture. I think this is a general pitfall of being an autodidact- with limited time, people tend to hyper focus in what they're interested in while not focusing what's less interesting but also essential. -On the opposite side there were those that were extremely widely read on a broad pov but had no depth. Without understanding of the details, they tended to flounder in areas and make wrong generalizations. -There were those that took their moral sentiments into play too much, and corrupted their objective analysis by having, say, a hatred or love of a certain group. -Then there were excesses, like egotistical battles/delusions of grandeur. Some were part of the community only to attack others while promoting their own agenda- which was generally an eccentric fixation on a certain issue while they saw themselves as a "vanguard of the truth" while spreading their biased propaganda everywhere and e-stalking/harassing contributors. This actually shifted exchanges towards the worse. The sad part is that a lot of these people were involved for up to 2 decades but seemingly refused to change while making the same mistakes over and over again, like groundhog day. I think it's because once they quit learning or learned too slowly after they reached a certain area. Their prejudices infected a lot of their opinions. Literally a type of arrested development, fueled by laziness. An ecologist/sociologist would probably see it as dynamics of an ecosystem...
