I didn't understand the ending of 2001: Space Odyssey until now (requires reading of the wikipedia article if one didn't read the book and/or understanding the "heroes' journey" mythological structure:

“Religions are founded by what mystics say when they come back;
but what the mystics say is not the same as what happened to them.”
 Ram Dass

Spoiler

  The astronaut gets captured by the aliens and put into a "zoo" created from how the aliens perceive human affinities.  He lives and dies in the zoo.  On the moment of death, he gets presented with the black rectangle (a transformation symbol) and gets reincarnated as the "Star Child", which comes back to Earth.  The motives of the Star Child are intentionally left ambiguous, but it's meant to signify the next stage of human evolution and consciousness.

Looks fun, got Castlevania vibes right away.

I would like to see it remade- Dark souls style but with a high budget. The art design looks like the most interesting part.

It's a completely retro game, like those of the Super Nintendo/Sega Genesis (1990s) times.

Would be so cool! Retro console games are the best, just straightforward action without thinking too much. Also the controllers were pure gold.

This movie has some good scenes- with Tywin!

longplay of this- the most disturbing 2.D game ever made.  It resembles a mythological tale.

I have a copy of the art book and it describes all the religious and cultural (southern spain, Catholicism, history) inspirations and meanings behind the art design.

"In my dreams I heard your footsteps coming closer. In my dreams I tried to talk to you, and introduce myself. Guardian of the Miracle, and of the Miracle banner, with great pain, I carry the emblem of the Father. I am the hands of bloodied skin, I am the eyes from which our Mother gazes. But nothing I know of you, apart from your cold, nameless visage. Apart from your callused and wounded hands. Apart from the mourning of your deaths. No. I know nothing of you, only the Miracle knows. Now, may your sword full of guilt, with mine of gold, collide. Let them hurt and march in procession. I curse you forever in name. I bless you forever in death."
