chiva474128 Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Whitney Houston I would have liked to see Mariah Carey in this poll. Quote

OriginalSin Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 mariah doesnt embrace the blackness in her...thats why i excluded her!! I'm inclined to disagree. It's not as though she's ever denied being (part) black. Couple that with the fact that many of her songs have a pop/r&b sound to them (Yes I know you don't have to be black to do r&b but it is commonly associated with black culture), I'd have to say she's embracing her "blackness" just fine. If anything, it's her Hispanic side that gets lost in the shuffle. btw, I'm not saying you should or shouldn't have included her in this poll (after all, it's your poll) but I don't agree with your argument that she doesn't embrace her black side. Qball Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I think that the question is not about singers representing 'black' music, but rather singers who are black... In this light, Mariah is obviously not a black singer. Quote
Ewing's Fan Posted July 12, 2006 Author Posted July 12, 2006 well rhett....this is bellazon so naturally they should be judged on their looks rather than their talent...i think alicia is way more beautiful then any of the other singers i've nominated... so if u think deres otha black singers who are way more beautiful den d ones i've mentioned, feel free to comment...now sum might even question why put missy elliot when she's not exactly bellazon material...but considering how she's looked b4 and how she looks now i think she just might grow prettier plus i think she does have fans out there!! chiva474128 Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 I'm a Missy Elliott fan but I consider her more of a rapper than a singer. Quote

(just like a white Egyptian is an African and a Russian is an Asian.) Quote
happycanadian2 Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 well, as sad a state as miss whitney is in right now, i think that if we look at her in her prime, she blows the others out of the water in terms of talent AND looks. other than vanessa, Whitney is the only one who has model-worthy looks. in fact, she started her career as a model before quitting to pursue her singing career. she's always had a fantastic body and great skin and a perfect smile. in terms of raw talent, while Beyonce and Alicia are certainly both talented -- they're both in their primes right now and there's not a chance in Hell either of them could touch "I Will Always Love You" or "All The Man I Need" or any of Whitney's other big hits with their vocal abilities. SOOOOOOOOOOO, my vote is for Whitney --- in her prime --- since that's where these other women are (minus Vanessa, who's really lacking in talent, but is certainly astonishingly gorgeous). pics to persuade: /monthly_07_2006/post-387-0-1446090939-35928_thumb.jpg" data-fileid="3877421" alt="post-387-0-1446090939-35928_thumb.jpg" data-ratio="71.41"> and links to some absolutely awe-inspiring live performances: "One Moment In Time" from the Grammy Awards http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EbYmMb4lR4 "This Day" -- a Gospel Song -- truly breathtaking rehearsal footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7pyWJRQJJw "All The Man I Need" - Live on Arsenio Hall's show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWtfFNb9A6o "A Quiet Place" -- another amazing gospel song when she was very young http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeQFz8rAh3w and of course: "I Will Always Love You" -- live from the 1994 World Music Awards http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_Wk7TATCwc...20love%20awards and again live from a concert in Argentina in 1994 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWQ9QLteAio...ove%20argentina Quote
Rhett Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 I don't need persuading... but I just can't reconcile the whole crack and Bobby thing, now. back then, yeah.although I will always prefer Vanessa, whose lips are just to die for.and maybe Billie, although I wasn't around when she was smoldering the scene Quote
