Home / Meaning of Life / Awakening Life / Birth Around the World

January 10, 2012 by Equipe Ubersite

To start off 2012 on the right foot, Giseles Blog features a new section that will be particularly pleasing to mothers, and all those interested in health and human development. We are always thinking of bringing new information to our readers, thats why Giseles Blog launches an innovative section: Waking Life, as a part of the project Birth Around the World.

The initiative was created by the midwife and neonatal nurse Mayra Calvetti and her husband, the businessman Enrico Ferrari. Since October 2011 they embarked on a special journey. Their goal is to visit 30 countries over nine months and learn about the different birthing methodologies used all over the world in an effort to help promote the humanization of birth. They started by traveling to Europe and have already been in countries where the public health system works and encourages natural childbirth like England, Netherland and Germany.

As the journey takes place, every two weeks the reality of each country will be posted here by Mayra with texts, pictures and videos. The dynamic duo will be filming; photographing, conducting one-on-one interviews, collecting data on births, health system, rates of maternal and neonatal mortality and sharing all they have learned with us.

Mayra was present at the birth of Giseles son, Benjamin. She is passionate about births and believes that the excessive use of technology and power may interfere adversely with the natural process of birth, increases risk and may even cause long-term complications for both mother and baby. According to the midwife, there are simple ways to improve maternal and newborn health with effective, cost-friendly, and compassionate care.

Read below Giseles testimonial about the Birth Around the World:

"When Mayra told me her idea about the Birth Around the World Project I thought it was a beautiful idea and knew that it would be really cool if she could share a little bit of this journey on my Blog. I had the opportunity to experience the natural process of birth and it was one of the most life changing experiences for me and very very special!

I believe its a womans right to make the decision about how shes going to give birth to her child. And its also her right to have access to the information she needs so she can make that decision from a place of awareness, and not a place of fear.

I believe that sharing information and show different possibilities of birth may help to demystify some questions about natural childbirth that for a long time was the only way of giving birth. I hope that I can learn even more about the subject through the experiences of these women around the world and be able to share this with you here on my blog.

Thank you for this gift Mayra :)

Be sure to follow the next steps of this incredible journey!

(Mayra is the woman seen in alot of Gisele's paparazzi pics with her. :p

The press often refers to her as the nanny but she is a nurse/mid wife/friend. Gisele probably trusts Benjamin with her alot. :)

You talk about self-esteem as a huge key to success. How do you remain so strong with your sense of self?

Truthfully, people are going to judge you no matter what. I feel like when people judge me theyre not judging me, because they dont know who I am. Ive had a million things that happened in my life that were hurtful. Since I was tall and skinny so young, everyone called me Olive Oyl. I was just 14 years old when I started modeling, and people were like, Hey, youre never gonna make it because you have a big nose, small eyes I mean everything was a problem with me. So I remember calling my dad, and hed say, Dont worry about it. You have a big nose, thats fine, because that comes with a big personality” so thats what you say to them next time. The funny thing is I still have the same nose! And it made me successful because I worked harder. I had to learn about lighting and angles because I couldnt just stand in front of a camera or the picture wouldnt look good. So, at the end of the day, something that could have broken me helped me. No one looks like me because they dont have my nose and it made me stand out.

At our cover shoot she turns up dead on time (as always), saying: "I'm going to sneeze these shots out - don't worry. You'll have it on the first shot." Which we do. Harper's Bazaar UK 2008

Gisele Bundchen and Alessandra Ambrosio - Paving Way for a Booming Brazilian Fashion Industry

By Laine McKenna

Before Brazilian-born Gisele Bundchen gained world-wide international fame, the fashion industry favored a the "Heroin Chic" look, which some health and social experts regarded as "unhealthy" and "unattainable" for the average woman.

Around that time, 13-year Bundchen attended a modeling course with her two sisters upon the assistance of their mother. The next year, she was spotted in a Sao Paulo shopping mall by a modeling agency. In 1996, at 16, she moved to New York to begin her modeling career. She made her debut in New York's prestigious Fashion Week.

People immediately took to the tall, long flowing locks of light brown hair with tan skin, a pronounced nose, and freckles. She added a certain element of sex appeal that hadn't been seen on international fashion runways since Elle Macpherson, who was once dubbed "The Body."

In fact, when her big break came in 2000, when she was chosen to model for Alexander McQueen, McQueen himself dubbed Bundchen "The Body." Like Macpherson, Bundchen skyrocketed to stardom. Rolling Stone Magazine coined her "The most beautiful girl in the world." She appeared on the covers of hundreds of magazines, including the French edition of Vogue, whose cover read "A Girl Called Gisele." The U.S., Vogue used her image to proclaim, "the return of the sexy model."

Around the same time that Bunchen was having success, another Brazilian-born model, Alessandra Ambrosio's career began to skyrocket. The 30-year old, just one year younger than Gisele and from the same city, began her own modeling career in Brazil, where she first appeared on the cover of the Brazilian Elle magazine. She then became the face of campaigns by Ralph Lauren, Christian Dior, and Georgio Armani. In 2000, she joined Victoria's Secret and first appeared in their fashion show. She's been a fixture there ever since.

Gisele also joined Victoria's Secret in 2000, along with Brazilian-born Adriana Lima, and enjoyed seven successful years modeling with the company, before moving on to other ventures. Lima and Ambrosio still model for Victoria's Secret, with Lima once donning the "Fantasy Bra," featuring 3,575 black diamonds, 117 white round diamonds, 34 rubies, and two black diamond drops, while Ambrosio once wore an all-candy bra and 30-pound pair of wings for Victoria's Secret's annual fashion show, televised worldwide.

It was Gisele, however, who started it all. In fact, she has been credited with paving the way for other Brazilian models and opening the doors for Brazilian fashion. She was recently ranked by Forbes for the fifth consecutive time as the "World's Top-Earning Model," making $45-million annually. She currently is the spokesperson for a number of charitable causes and can be seen in commercials and print ad campaigns for shampoo while investing in real estate, something she's been passionate about since she was 18.

New quote from Donatella on Versace campaign

Donatella Versace says: “Gisele was the perfect choice for this campaign. Her beauty is so bold in these images and she radiates true strength and sensuality. As an iconic beauty, she is also the perfect fit for the Étoile de la Mer eyewear collection. The images of her in the collection are stunning and powerful. This is exactly the vision I had when I started the design process.”

yes she does, this is Gisele's 9th Versace campaign. :D Well 7 mainline and 2 for Versace Jeans. I wonder if that is a record? I'm pretty sure Gisele has the most Dolce&Gabbana campaigns ever, 12 total.

She really fits the Italian sexy brands to perfection.
