Oh heck, i'll give the translation right away: 'We had a small and close class and apart form being classmates, we were also good friends of eachother', says Tryntsje Hoekstra, ex-classmate of the 23-year old top model Doutzen Kroes. Tryntsje followed classes together with Doutzen on primary school De Bolster in Eastermar. 'Doutzen and I were unseparable from a very young age. We played with marbles, swopped flippos and collected plastic nipples. We were particularly fanatic in saving flippos.' Outside of school time the girls could often be found on the netball pitch. 'Doutzen was a passionate netball player. She always went to the limit. And despite the fact that we had a real girl team, we won almost every match. We beat the hell out of quite some boy teams.' Tough girls, that is how Tryntsje describes her friend and herself during primary school in the early nineties. 'We didn't play with dolls, but we did boyish things like building huts and jumping over ditches. Doutzen had a big garden, so we could really go on a spree there. And we often wore baseball caps back to front. Quite boyish, but that's what we wanted. We didn't do girly things, like wearing skirts and high heels.' According to her friend, Doutzen was not immensely popular with the boys. 'We weren't really into that yet at that time. Doutzen didn't stand out anyway. She was a quiet girl, she was not on foreground and didn't care much about her looks. I can't remember her having a boyfriend. But maybe that's because there weren't any nice boys in our class.' That Doutzen would become world-famous is something her friend still blinks her eyes about. 'If someone would have asked me a few years ago what I think Doutzen would become in the future, I could have answered anything but this. Not because she isn't pretty, but I just didn't think that she would go this way. And I think she didn't see this coming either. It just happened to her.' Tryntsje already visited her friend in New York twice. 'I think it's great to see how popular she is over there and how well she is doing. I really admire that. It's a very tough world, but she knows how to maintain herself so well! Doutzen always was a stickler, and she still is. Otherwise she wouldn't have come this far.'
