Is it just me, or is this current crop of SISE models much less mainstream than before?

Marisa, Heidi, Daniela, Veronika, even Petra were all much more well-known outside of the modeling world than which-ever girl they will pick for the cover this time around.

I guess of the current girls, only Bar (thanks to Leo) and Brooklyn (again, thanks to the extra exposure her relationship gives her) have some name recognition outside of the model/fashion nuts niche.

If you mean less mainstream in terms of fame rather than physical appeal, I don't think the SISE has been exactly packed with mainstream models for quite awhile. In years past, you could have models like Laetitia Casta or Josie Maran make multiple appearances in the issue and still never get the cover because SI had more big names than they had covers to give. Now though, with Marisa and their other stars gone, the only models SI has to give the cover to are models who would never have had a chance at it back in like 2002.

To put it a little meanly, SI is working with all second-tier models now.

That all said, I'm still half-suspecting Selita is getting the cover and SI is just holding her back from promotion as a surprise.

"a little meanly" ? Ya' think? I stopped by to see if the full editorial for Cosmo was posted in UHQ. I was gonna' post it if it wasn't already posted. I saw your post and have to tell you, honestly, I was wondering how you would play off this year's issue, which angle you would come at it with, when I saw your post elsewhere being very specific about who was "good enuff, but only sorta". You haven't disappointed.

Q1:What are your plans for 2009?

2008 was more than I dreamed of, so I'm definitely excited [to see] what 2009 will bring. There are many surprises and new projects in the works. Personally, I'm hoping to take trips to Hawaii and Australia and get back in the water and surf some more.

Q2:Can you tell us about that "someone special" in your life?

My Griffin is the love of my life. There are no words to describe....

Q3:You have tons of loyal fans -- what would people be surprised to know about you?

First of all, I love my fans! My job would not be what it is without them. I make an effort to keep in touch with them on my website forum. My fans were having a lot of problems with impersonators and fake MySpace/Facebook pages claiming to be me. I wanted to create a place for people to be able to interact with me and know it was really me. I never take for granted the support [of] my fans.

And I don't know if there would be anything that would surprise people about me -- I'm pretty down to earth and real, so what you see is what you get!

Q4:How has fame changed your life?

Being in the public eye and being recognized is definitely something I'm still not used to. I'm pretty shy (I know it sounds weird for a model to say that), and I get really nervous when [i'm] approached during normal daily stuff, like grocery shopping. If I'm at an event, I'm prepared and have my “work hat” [on] so to speak. It’s really flattering when [i’m] approached, but I probably get more embarrassed than the person coming up to me. It's kind of funny, but I'm starting to get used to it.

Q5:What was your most extravagant purchase in the last year?

I had been driving the same truck for nine years -- it was more a "surf-mobile" than anything, and I didn't have to fuss over it, which was great. A couple of months ago I bought a G500. I love it. It's nice to have seat heaters and a good stereo system.

Q6:What is the biggest misconception people have about you?

The biggest misconception would be that because I'm blond and have curves, [then] I'm fake and have plastic surgery. People tell me to take it as a compliment. But to me it's really shocking to have people make assumptions when they’ve never met you and don't know you.

Q7:What motto do you try to live by?

Enjoy the moment and appreciate what you have.

Q8:You make your living based on your image -- are you ever afraid of losing that image?

No, I'm not afraid. I'm definitely aware that the physical appearance is a very temporary gift. I'm very thankful for the opportunities that I've been able to experience, but I keep it all in check and don't let it consume me. I'm going to be OK when I'm 60 and my boobs aren't in the same place as when I was 25.

Q9:Do you get fan mail? Do fans ever send you gifts?

Yes, I receive fan mail. One of my favorite things to do is sit down and read the letters people write. It's really amazing the time people take to write these letters, tell their stories, draw pictures, etc. Some are funny, some are sad, but all [are] inspiring in some way.

Q10:What is the strangest thing you've received from a fan?

I haven't received anything strange, but somebody once asked if I could send a lock of my hair. Unfortunately, I don't have any to spare. I need to keep all my hair for work!

Q11:Do you believe in ghosts?

I don't believe in ghosts, like the white sheet, Halloween-type ghosts. [However], I definitely believe that we all have souls or spirits, and there is more going on than just our physical body.

Well, I would hope that the issue has been printed and shipped by Monday, if the issue is getting released on Tuesday. Or else the people in charge of SI are guilty of some rather poor planning.
