I think there's something really captivating about cover songs. They're often atrocious, but sometimes wonderful, and more often than not give you a different perspective of a song when an artist can inject their own style and personality into it.

So basically what I'd like to do is gather a bunch of nominations, then give everyone the chance to vote on how much they like or dislike them. I'm thinking that it will go something like this:

- One song (two versions) per round

- Both versions of the song will be provided via YouTube to give those unfamiliar with the songs a chance to rate them

- You give an objective rating of the original song out of 10, on its own merits

- You give an objective rating of the cover version of the song out of 10, on its own merits

- You distribute 5 points between the two, based on which version you like more

- Points will be averaged at the end of each round to calculate the total score.

I've never done one of these before, so it has the potential to fall flat on its face

Hopefully there's enough interest, and we can get some interesting results.

I'll get the list started, then start taking nominations.

Nomination notes:

- Please send me all nominations via private message

- Provide me with the song title, the original artist name, and the artist name doing the cover version

- Provide me with YouTube links to both versions (doesn't matter if it's not the right video, so long as the audio is correct)

- If it's not on YouTube, it's ineligible

- Live versions are okay, but make sure the quality is reasonable

- Please don't embed YouTube videos in this thread to nominate

- Feel free to nominate, whether you love/hate the original, or love/hate the cover

Nominations closed!

There was a version on there a couple years ago, but they took it down and now its mostly 'my cousin singing All Along the Watchtower, tell me what you think' ect. :ninja: . There's a guitar hero version on there I think though :ninja: .

Well yeah, I guess the names and spellings are inevitable :ninja: , but that's partially because I refuse to look it up to correct beforehand because if it was regular conversation I wouldn't be able to so it seems like cheating/not the real me :ninja: . If I have to have the same embarassment online as in real life then its worth it just for that :ninja: . And yeah, the original song's called "Crossroad Blues" but the remake is called "Crossroads" proably because it isn't a blues version :idk: . Thanks for the Levee info and although I knew about The Miracle's version (like the Gladys version) but thosre are ironically among my least, if not absolute least favorite songs by them by far and the Marvin version is by far my favorite version in general.

Speaking of Smokey, can I replace "I Will Always Love You" with "Who's Lovin You" by The Jackson 5? I don't really like "I Will Always Love You" but just thought it was worth a mention since its one of the best and mos successful, but if I could make the switch it would be nice :ninja: .

Done. Still need the other half of your links :ninja:

Oh, I didn't see the rules and assumed it was just cover versions 1 vs. 1 :ninja: . Okay, in light of that I added the original's videos and unnominated some :ninja: as I was already trying to decide which spots to give to Layla and BabyJude but that just took care of itself :hehe: .
