Inside Pat McGrath’s Secret Met Gala After-Party MAY 4, 2016 8:51 PM by MACKENZIE WAGONER “See you at Boom Boom?” was the seemingly unanimous question being asked as glittering guests trickled down the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday night at the end of the 2016 Met Gala’s “Manus x Machina” tech-themed evening. Lupita Nyong’o, Katy Perry, Allison Williams, and Madonna were on their way to the annual after-party held at the Boom Boom Room at the top of the Standard Hotel. Just across the hall, another fete was in full swing—Pat McGrath’s secret makeover party, where a gathering of her model, designer, and actress friends stepped in for a beautifying visit with the makeup whiz. Channeling the anything-goes spirit of the night, McGrath had come to give sparkling, festive touch-ups to those in need of an after-midnight pick-me-up. In breezed Emily Ratajkowski, who sat while McGrath dusted her new Golden Skin Fetish 003 luminizing powder along her collarbones, followed by Taylor Hill, who had the gleaming powder pressed onto her cheekbones. Zendaya and Marc Jacobs gave up their lids to the makeup artist, who expertly tapped on flashing bits of metallic glitter. For Hailey Baldwin, it was a sprinkling of silver in the corners of the eyes. “Gorgeous!” McGrath could be heard crowing after each sparkling transformation—a process she mischievously referred to as “getting lit.” In their new high-impact party makeup, it seemed no one could resist the urge to dance under the nearby resident disco ball, drawing everyone from Petra Collins to Taylor Swift to drift in from the Boom Boom Room for a quick hello. And before she knew it, McGrath had turned her makeover station into what may have been the best and most exclusive after-party of the night.
