BTW, in Predator 2, you have women, black, latinos, etc. and nobody made it a selling point to the viewer. You didn't hear people saying "Watch our movie, it's the first time we employed a wahmen or a black guy".

We loved Danny Glover as the hero, because he was an awesome cop, not because of his skin colour. That was called being civilized. Now Hollywood is a jungle obsessed with race, gender and "the current thing".:Amelie_wft:

Remember how the Predator was a villain, but a civilized villain that wouldn't harm a pregnant woman? Awesome movie.:bounce:

I never interpreted this as "mercy" from the Predator.

He is a hunter who likes to go up against dangerous prey.

But I think he did not kill her because she was pregnant, the same way a human hunter might spare a pregnant doe.

I watched episode 4 HOD.

Weaker episode than 1-3.  Well directed but didn't like the story as much.  I feel like the intrigue in this one is too cliche and simple.  Not really up to GRRM standards IMHO.  The focus remains on the Targareans.

in looking at the Fire and Blood book it appears that Season 1 is actually taken from the halfway point of book 1.  This is odd to me.  This means that there is a massive time skip that doesn't cover the first half of the book and the pre-history to what we see here.

I don't know if they are going to ignore all of that or they will cover that in a later season.  Seems out of order.  Maybe they chose to do the 2nd half of the book because it was better for filming.

You realize that what we say is not contradictory, right? It's OK to agree on stuff sometimes

The Predator exhibited values. Fighting only the strong and sparing the weak (or weakened). That's what we used to call honor, a term that Hollywood now rejects, because they call it "toxic masculinity" (or any other made up term for people who love the smell of their own farts :nicole:)

Both movies are pretty good.  Predator 1 is a classic, a perfect film.

Yep

I love the music too.

It's interesting to compare the Predator's music to Alien's.

There are way more drums in Predator's OST, which makes it more martial.  There are the necessary eerie moments in the music, but it's often broken by rhythmic moments with heavy drums. It gives more structure to the music which makes the predator both worrying, but also more warrior like (or hunter like). The atmosphere is very martial, both because the major and his buddies are soldiers, but also the Predator itself has a warrior spirit (and self discipline)

Also, even if the Predator is sneaky (cause he has his invisible cloak), he loves the sport/challenge and gives somewhat of a chance to his prey.

---

This is very different from the Alien (the first). There's no martial element, it's all sneaky and vicious, with a music filled with slow ambiances punctuated with high pitched / strident noises.

Now, in Aliens (the 2nd), there are space marines (soldiers...) and the OST is heavily marked with drums, though somehow still blended with the creepy atmosphere. The drums are for the marines, the creep stuff for the aliens.

BTW, I think I prefer Aliens to Alien. It's less creepy and there's more fighting spirit.

Of course, there's always the Weyland Yutani corporate bitching, but the marine spirit lives on.

BTW, Aaron (aka "85") in Alien 3 is called "65" in the French dubbed version.

They had to lower his IQ for the French market. I don't know if it means we're dumber or something :rofl::rofl:

I checked and they didn't do it in Spanish, Dutch or Italian :Amelie_wft:

Do you remember when The Phantom Menace was released in the cinema? Such a great moment. I was a kid and Hollywood movies were so promising. Their promise was to blend great stories we already knew with new technologies (SFX, CGIs, etc.)

Science at the service of science fiction. I loved it. Beautiful promise.

I was so impatient to watch it (it was released in France months after the US). I loved it. I was thinking about it every day after seeing it again and again.

There was also the game Jedi Knight (and all of its sequels) which I played again and again.

I was in my first year of university when Phantom Menace was released. I too was looking forward to it. And let down with the actual film, unfortunately.

Probably has more to do with matching the dub to the lips moving.

"Eighty-five" is much shorter than "quatre-vingt-cinq".

They probably struggled to match the lip movements up properly to the dub.

So they used "soixante-cinq" instead.
