I heard that Rings of Power is better than the Witcher show but not as good as the House of the Dragon.  It has huge production values but this is not matched with the quality of casting, writing, and acting.  So it's like a great looking but middling show, not bad not great.

I like Rings better than House of the Dragon so far.

House of the Dragon is like the most boring version of Game of Thrones. Imagine Game of Thrones but none of the fun/funny characters are there.

So no Tyrion, Bronn, Pod, Jaime, Tormund, ... And then make it another ten percent more boring.

The cast is also pretty forgettable, other than Paddy Considine (who does do a good job playing Viserys).

I don't get how this could have happened. GRRM is closely involved and he does have a sense of humor. Certainly his main book series is a lot funnier than this stuff.

I don't think casual fantasy fans (like those Game of Thrones attracted in droves) are going to keep on watching such a serious and dour affair.

Not that I think Rings is a perfect show. It's also pretty flawed, but two episodes in it has kept my attention more than House of the Dragon.

@Enrico_sw  My story behind the youtube channel is that I really admire how people can monetize and expand their engagement with their passions and life experiences.  And most of all, share their unique gift (if they possess it that is--), which is their analysis, their perspective.  This is a huge to me, that a good passive income can potentially be gained with this activity.  It's like they did what they love, did additional work to convert it into videos, and then got well compensated which helps them to do other things with their life.

You should know what I mean and maybe you feel the same way.  Passions are really meaningful and fulfilling, particularly when you complete them.  But they come at an exceptionally high cost of attention and time, where other less pleasant, often obnoxious but necessary 'real world' things could have been done.  This has bothered me for a long time in the back of my mind.   I completed by passions about 95%-97% so far and am in the position to contribute, I also have a lot of professional knowledge that could be released out there.

If this can be converted into something successful in outside world it would redeem the sacrifices for following the path of one's soul, rather than taking the well worn, beaten paths.

There are successful channels on youtube that has genuinely good, timeless, and helpful/educational content, without engaging in click baiting and current events.  I hope that mine will be like that.

what do you think of Rings of Power?

House of the Dragon is meant to be a much shorter story.  There are only two books, one is unwritten.

I know that Fire and blood book 1 is not entirely written by GRRM.  It was written by him plus the help of some other writers.

Frankly this and the extreme delay with the main series gives the impression that he is short on good ideas.  Maybe he exhausted all of his best ideas in the GOT books.  Yea the iconic characters of GOT really make it what it is.  They have a lot of charisma.  Did you know that Samwell Tarly is GRRM (he admitted it in an interview)?  Also GRRM's favorite character is Tyrion (which is probably the best character TBH).

In the GOT audiobook, I am up to the part where Tyrion and Bronn team up and leave Cat Stark, and come across the Stone Crows.

The main issue I have with Rings is that so many of the story lines leave me indifferent. I really only care about Galadriel's story and to a slightly lesser degree Arondir and Bronwyn. The rest are pretty underwhelming up to this point. Unless the revelation of the Stranger's identity makes the Harfoots story a lot more interesting.

I heard of the complaint that the actors don't have enough charisma.  Same thing with HoD being no where as good there as GOT.  I think they got some of the tone correct from what little I've seen.  The Silmarillion is written in a remarkably mythological and even religious style.

I don't like their new design for the hobbits.  They look too much like homeless people lol.

"Meteor Man" seems to be a servant of God (Maiar).

In Tolkien that's what Gandolf, Saruman and the other wizards are.  They are sent to earth, from heaven to guide the beings there.  Do you think the stranger is Gandolf or even Saruman as many in the fandom think he is?

He cannot be Gandalf according to the time line. It's too early for Gandalf's appearance. But they have changed a lot already. So it's possible.

Maybe he is just another character.

I take back the Hobbits comment, this show probably depicts their 'pre-civilized' form.

The Hobbits were Tolkein's stand-in for British country people.  Sam was based on Tolkein's skillful batman when he was a Signals officer in World War 1.
