What Aspiring Young Actors Can Learn From Leonardo DiCaprio

With the actor's latest being in 'J.Edgar' directed by Clint Eastwood, he shares how much he prepares for his roles and how this most recent frustrated and fascinated him all at the same time.

After two decades of working as a professional actor, he reveals that it is this character that he hated playing the most. 'Why' is the main question that he kept asking on the process of studying the life, works and controversies that the ex-FBI director went through.

He may have openly stated how much he dislikes the character but this does not mean that he has less desire to have played the character at his best capability.

"I really just gravitate towards roles that I want to learn more about.. if there's a mystery to the person, that's when I get more involved,' the "Shutter Island" and "Inception" actor shared.

As advice to other aspiring actors in the industry, he wants to remind everyone how fleeting the career can be. According to one interview he did, there are certainly points in your career that you would find the iron striking hot that all you have to do is take advantage of the opportunity to do what you want to do best, for the benefit of your own career.

"There are times when your career is hot and people want to see your work and there's other times when people lose interest. But while I'm in the fortunate position of being able to choose what I want to do, I'm gonna do that," Leo said.

DiCaprio is also known to be a very hardworking actor who even travels to the places where he can get to learn and prepare more about the character he is to portray. When he was cast to play Hoover, he even went to Washington, D.C. to meet up with the people who have known the director in the past. He wants to know the character even with the smallest details like how he makes others laugh or how he even eats.

In short, Leonardo becomes totally someone else and transforms into the character he is playing which makes him a very in demand actor these days.

"If somebody says to you, 'You weren't at all like yourself,' that's the greatest compliment you can pay an actor,' according to his co-actor in the movie, Judi Dench.

DiCaprio has made a name for himself in the films included in his resume just like 'The Boy's Life,' 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape,' 'The Basketball Diaries,' and a lot more. And with films that are set to be made by the young actor like 'Gatsby' and 'Django Unchained,' the run of his career simply shows no signs of stopping.

With 'Titanic' to be released once again in the 3D format, this could add up more to the popularity ranking of the actor.

"Being able to do that with almost any type of movie you want to do is a huge privilege. It's been a huge gift," Leo said on his role as Jack for 'Titanic' played out with Kate Winslet.

The man who invented the lobotomy, Dr. Walter Freeman, is a classic case of noble intentions gone way off track.

Which may be why HBO is developing a new series with Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company based on “The Lobotomist, “ the best-selling book about Freeman.

The network confirms that tthe series is in the “extreme early stages” of development. No script or casting has yet been done, said a spokesman.

But Freeman’s story appears to be the kind of thing that appeals to HBO’s penchant for likeable bad guys.

Freeman refined the surgical procedure in the late 1940s as a miracle cure for mental illness

He traveled the country performing lobotomies — routinely doing 15 operations a day — at mental institutions and in doctors’ offices.

The success of the operation in reversing the effects of depression and aggressive behavior turned Freeman into an overnight celebrity.

The actress Frances Farmer and John F. Kennedy’s sister Rosemary were among the most famous victims of the dreaded procedure.

Even when it became clear that the operation was turning mental patients into medical zombies, Freeman never stopped championing lobotomies and looking for people he believed benefited from them.

The Friday night shindig drew a bevy of Australia’s “Next Top Model” contestants — including rumored conquest Alyce Crawford — to DiCaprio’s favorite haunt since he relocated to Sydney to film “The Great Gatsby.”

“There were at least 100 people there, mostly girls,” one of the partygoers told Flash. “Leo kind of took Ethan under his wing; he was saying Ethan hadn’t been with anyone in a while.”

“Gatsby” co-star Tobey Maguire, married with two children, was spotted sipping mineral water near the dance floor around 3 a.m. and looking a bit above it all.

DiCaprio, Haas and Suplee, who all rode into town on DiCaprio’s private jet last week, raged until dawn.

Our spy says a limo went back to DiCaprio’s enormous suite at The Star casino with eight women aboard. “There was lots of bourbon and cigars,” she said. “His place was amazing.”

DiCaprio’s posse was spotted the next night inhaling Mexican food before heading back to Beach Haus for seconds.

Meanwhile, the “Gatsby” cast has been filming decadent party scenes at an old Catholic seminary tricked out to resemble Gatsby’s Long Island party mansion. It’s where Nicole Kidman wed Keith Urban in 2006.
