  1. I agree about Shana. I think she was a great GUESS girl. I agree about “missing” Niki Taylor. And I miss that aesthetic. I miss Niki’s look. I miss Niki working that look. But the thing I would say about “missing” Niki is: She had an excellent career. She did covers, she did endorsements, she did editorial work, she did runway, she had her calendars. I do miss her appearing in all those things, but time moves on and she had an excellent career. The career of, literally, a supermodel. And, to take your question a little bit differently: You know whose career I find very disappointing? That I “miss” in that way? That I can’t understand, their not having done more? bigger things? better things? Diana Kovalchuk. You look at her Elite Model Look stuff, and I think this is the “famous” one, out of her winning EML 1996: http://www.rumela.com/albums_1/diana_koval...kovalchuk08.jpg also in color, on the NAROD tribute site: and I just don’t understand why Diana didn’t have a much bigger career. And to answer one other way: You know whose career amazes me? A model that just astounds me? That I DON’T miss? Stephanie Seymour. Good grief, but Stephanie has endured as a fantastic model, and a beautiful woman. Stephanie Seymour and Christy Turlington. I love ‘em. I do.
  2. Sports Illustrated has a feature on their site now, "Best One-piece Bathing Suits". Valeria is one of the models featured. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedi...content.25.html http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedi...content.16.html

  4. If you did miss the segment, you didn't really miss too much. There's a little bit of discussion about Warhol, contemporary commercial art and the commercial artist, which was interesting, but it was very cursory (I thought). Stephanie had the least interesting things to say, and I'm not really sure why she was there or what she added to the discussion. Ostensibly there was some discussion of the intersection of art and fashion, and Jacobs had interesting things to say, but the segment overall was not so good. From the perspective of hearing from Stephanie, either about her career or her life or the work she's doing, there was really nothing. Possibly that's as it should be, since they were discussing Warhol and Interview magazine, but still, a bit disappointing. If you're interested: http://www.charlierose.com/shows/2008/06/1...tes-andy-warhol I don't use FLASH VIDEO myself, so I don't know how this link will work out. It's supposed to be a video, courtesy Google video. 5. Thanks, Phil. I haven't seen a lot of editorial work from Kristy, and that's a really super one!
  6. Thanks, John. That's a nice portfolio. Nice variety.
  7. Ooooh, oooooh. That officially made me a pip whore. Ooooh, oooooh.

  9. For those of you in the USA: Stephanie Seymour will be part of a panel, I believe with Peter Brandt and Marc Jacobs, interviewed on television -- CHARLIE ROSE on PBS -- sometime this week. I believe the focus of the interview will be INTERVIEW magazine. I missed which day it will air, but tonight, Monday the 9th, the segment was announced as coming up. If you miss it/you're out-of-country, entire CHARLIE ROSE segments used to be made available free through Google video. We'll see. http://www.charlierose.com/schedule/
  10. ^ Oh, and they're both free.
  11. John, two other programs you might like: GIMP and IrfanView. GIMP is a bit like a free Photoshop. IrfanView is (I find) a really handy little utility, and absolutely one of my Windows favorites. It takes screenshots, resizes images, converts between image formats, has basic color/gamma adjustment, will thumbnail entire directories, and has many convenient functions on keyboard shortcut/hotkey assignment. Here are their Wikipedia pages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIMP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irfanview
  12. I missed this, and the show is apparently now down to its final episode, but Carol is currently on TV here in the United States as a contestant on “The Apprentice” (a reality TV show where a dozen or so young professionals compete for a high-salary job as real-estate tycoon Donald Trump’s “apprentice”. This time around, the show has a cast of “celebrities” playing for charity. Carol was one of the celebrities, along with actor Stephen Baldwin and boxer Lennox Lewis.) There’s a long bio and other info/videos for Carol on the show’s site: http://www.nbc.com/The_Celebrity_Apprentic...carol_alt.shtml
  13. Hi Jal...my MAC automatically resizes pictures when they are fully opened, so higher resolution doesn't cause a problem. I am intentionally making these large and very HQ because I thought that this is what everyone wanted. I personally like images in the highest resolution possible for maximum detail...when I drag the fully opened image onto my MAC to save, it automatically resizes it but I still have the great detail and color quality. I need to know what is best...I can certainly lower the resolution some to make it easier for those with computers who don't automatically resize so all can enjoy... I could use some feedback from some of the members on this topic...
  14. Yes, it's a problem. I don't know about the Mac in particular, but typically our machines like to have some headroom with which to work. I wanted to archive some large files that would have been prohibitively costly to replace and finally bought an external drive. I chose a Seagate FreeAgent because Seagate had a good reputation and also the best warranty -- five years parts and labor. Since the industry "standard" seemed to be one year (even ninety days), I figured Seagate must expect these things to last. A 250GB drive was less than one hundred dollars, and I've been pleased with it. But I don't know about the Seagate's functionality with Macs. If you're looking for a good online retailer for equipment like this, try http://www.newegg.com/ I've had good experiences with NewEgg, and the user reviews are typically helpful. For something that's very precious, you might also consider online storage services. One thing I'd say to you about archiving is that digital is not infallible. Obviously there are disk crashes, but there is also corruption of stored data.
  15. Great thread, capt_bob. A Niki Taylor you had scanned, I think over on Fashion Spot, was also just added into her thread here (where I just saw it). I never knew that Niki was in VS, so that was a real treat. Thanks for all that.
  16. Over on SuperiorPics, there is a retrospective-ish post for SI models. There is a Paulina section. I think a lot of it is in this thread already , but there might be one or two (there is also one tagged as Paulina which is obviously not Paulina). There is also Christie Brinkley, Cheryl Tiegs, and so on. http://forums.superiorpics.com/ubbthreads/.../0/fpart/1/vc/1
