Currently being treated to the so-called experts on Sky Sports News discussing player ratings from 'Football Manager'. Absolutely fantastic.

To sum up the last two editorials, only one emoticon will do...

If a tree falls in the woods but there's nobody there to hear it, do Sunderland still beat Newcastle 6-0? Perhaps we should start playing all our games behind closed doors.

Anyone end up giving this a watch? I was really disappointed by it, if I'm honest. At the heart of it there just isn't enough story to support the length of the film, so it comes across as extremely excessive, and at times just plain boring. You know how Tarantino films always have those 25-30 minute scenes which are pretty much all dialogue? Imagine that stretched across three long hours.

    Hello next avatar.
  6. So what would the Kiki top 10 look like, then?

I was okay with the plot being fairly straightforward, a simple story doesn't have to be an unsophisticated one. I just think, when a filmmaker has nearly three hours to play with, they should be able to deliver a bit more in the way of human interest. My biggest gripe on that front was with Fitzgerald, who has menace and conviction in spades; the problem is that the more he speaks, the more you realise there's nothing else to him. Overall, I was really impressed by the world Inarritu created, there just wasn't enough happening in it to keep me engaged from start to finish. None of that stuff was through any fault of the cast though, they were all very good. Standout for me was Domnhall Gleeson (what a year that guy's having), but I'd have no problem if Di Caprio won big this year. Seriously, there’s no telling the lengths that he'll go to if he’s denied recognition this time. Just give it to the guy before he really hurts himself, he's earned the right to spend the next couple of years making lightweight romcoms instead.
  8. Democracy in action.

I left feeling strangely unsatisfied, if I'm honest. What you see in the trailer is exactly what you get in the film, with technical skill and performances on show that are breathtaking at times. Unfortunately, it loses its way after the first hour (when the momentum and thrill of the chase start to die down a bit), and it becomes more concerned with how the film is made than what it's actually making. You should always be watching the story first and foremost, but the plot and characterisation were just too flat to justify the running time. On balance, I think a higher level could have been reached had it been chopped down to two hours or less.

Sunderland won 100% of games in which Danny scored. Talisman! Shame to see old 'Golden' Graham leave us, as he probably could have come good had he been given a bit longer. Some players don't reach their full potential until they're in their mid-fifties, and this could easily come back and bite us in 25-30 years' time. It'll be interesting to see who Big Sam decides to bung on the left wing now on Saturday. John O'Shea, perhaps?

The latest trailer has been revealed, with mixed feelings for my wallet. Joker and Harley still seem fairly lacklustre to me, but it does look like quite a fun romp. Could go down in history as the first movie ever where Jai Courtney does something interesting.

The good news is that Phasma has nowhere to go but up now. I'm really hoping to see her become Finn's biggest rival over the course of the next two movies, I like the idea of the rebel Stormtrooper pitted against his old boss, a wildcard looking for revenge. Just stay away from that Sarlacc Pit please Gwendoline.
  13. Apparently, Garth Ennis's 'Preacher' (which I'd say is right up there with his best work) is soon to hit the small screen. I've been dreaming about seeing a good adaptation of this for a while, but I can't help thinking they'll struggle, particularly tonally. The books are so dark, so dry, so outrageous and yet so oddly plausible at the same time. Seth Rogen's involvement makes me slightly nervous too.

Personally, I can't wait for this, although it remains to be seen whether the general public will really go out and see it in big numbers. The hype and craziness over the movie is mostly coming from comic book fans in a very specific corner of the internet. I suppose, as long as Fox doesn't buy into the hype too much and dump millions into the advertising, they should be alright to turn a profit. Apropos of nothing, I'll be pretty disappointed if Deadpool doesn't call Stan Lee's character 'Stan Lee' and talks about how he loves him in all the Marvel movies, and then wonders which character Stan would play if he ever got his own Deadpool movie. That would be the ultimate fourth wall blast.

I don't presume to know the first thing about Hilary's personal life, but it's probably reasonable to assume that a theft like the one she's describing could happen to anyone. Particularly after what went on with Maggie Rizer back in the day.
  18. Even Daniele only just missed out. She actually placed 101st on the final list.
  19. Very welcome guys. Same time next year?

To think, we swapped Jozy Altidore for Jermain Defoe. Sorry Toronto!
  22. That's two in a row now for Candice, although she's never been far away from the top spot in all the years the contest has been going. The previous three were won by Alessandra (2010), Adriana (2011) and Barbara (2012).
  23. So that's a wrap then, guys! As always, thanks ever so much to all who took the time to cast votes, leave comments and generally play a part in the proceedings.
