UEFA Euro 2016
Hopefully Pogba, Matuidi, Payet, Kante and Griezmann all start. That would be as dynamic as any set-up in Europe. I think England have a squad with excellent potential and a good mix of international experience and club form this year. The problem is that we still don't really know the starting line-up or the tactics, which, given how close we are to the start of such a huge tournament, is a bit of a worry. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm expecting Hodgson to make up another nonsensical formation as an excuse to squeeze in the so-called 'essential' players. Kane and Vardy to both start, but too far away from each other on the pitch. Alli out of position because we're too scared to drop Rooney, and Milner to fill in the gaps because he never looks noticeably better or worse, no matter where we put him. My best guess is that we edge out Russia and Slovakia in the group games before being found out in the knockout rounds.

UEFA Euro 2016
Do you think Dimitri Payet will get a game? Speaking from a very English perspective of course, but there were times last season when his skills were almost unmatched in the Premier League. His free kicks were breathtaking too, like something from a bygone era. That could be such a huge weapon.

UEFA Euro 2016
I suppose the question will be whether or not Koscielny and Mangala are able to quickly form a partnership in the unfortunate absence of Varane. Sagna and Evra are two of the best full-backs of the Premier League era, and while they're undoubtedly getting older, they should be fairly reliable and bring experience. Shame about Diarra too, although a midfield of Pogba, Matuidi and Kante sounds pretty decent. Can't imagine Schneiderlin being involved much after playing like most of the players who've left Southampton recently.

UEFA Euro 2016
France look a formidable side this year. Their first eleven was solid at the World Cup, and they've had even more good options emerge in the two years since. It's a squad that could easily peak at just the right time.

Normally, I'm not one for advocating cosmic catastrophe, but I don't think I'd mind if stars were to fall just this once.

Wayward Pines
Turns out that it started at roughly the same time in the UK. I must have missed the ad campaign. I do plan on giving it a whirl, although I must say, it's still a bit of a surprise that they brought it back. I would have been okay with leaving it at season one, the story felt like it was told and, whatever people may have thought about the way it wrapped up, it had a proper conclusion, which isn't always the case with shows like this.

Last movie you saw...
I wasn't too keen when I first heard about this, but it really did work. The only thing I was a bit sad about was that the four vultures from Liverpool weren't in it.

Wayward Pines
Honestly, I had no clue that there was a second season. Or even that there were plans to make one, come to think of it. It's hard to shake the feeling that we probably know the answers to all the mysteries already, but I'll give it a watch if and when it reaches the UK.

Rooney Mara
On first glance, I thought it was Tilda Swinton.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 (2017)
News just broke that Elizabeth Debicki is expected to be the villain of the piece in GOTG 2. Her presumed character, Ayesha, was a genetically 'perfect' person created by a group called the Enclave, who similarly created another perfect being in Adam Warlock. So, another potential connection to the classic Infinity Stone and Thanos stories there.

Star Trek Beyond (2016)
It's certainly interesting to see Simon Pegg being trusted to have such influence over the franchise. When the reboot first landed in 2009, I thought the cast did a superb job in nailing the attitudes and behaviour of the classic crew (for what it's worth, Anton Yelchin was my favourite), but Pegg was probably the least reminiscent of his predecessor in the role. Although I suppose in fairness, he was used mostly just as comic relief.

Yeah, unfortunately when you remove the opening post of a topic, it causes the URL to change. The remaining content is still intact, though.

Supergirl
The CW's DC Universe has grown by leaps and bounds over the past couple of years. I like The Flash and still quite enjoy Arrow, although I feel like I'm constantly on the brink of giving up on Legends of Tomorrow. In theory you couldn't pick a better character than Savage to build a time-travel story around, but in practice he's a bit underwhelming. I'll be more than happy to see Supergirl come back for another season though, even if the show has become something of a heart over head decision for me. It's not perfect by any stretch, but it's just so charming and fun.

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
I don't know much about the plot at the moment, but news broke earlier in the week of some seriously impressive additions to the cast, hence the starting of the topic. Sif and the Warriors Three were noticeably absent from the announcement, but Jaimie Alexander has hinted since that she and her gang will all be making appearances. According to Kevin Feige, Natalie Portman is officially out of the picture as Jane.

While Van Gaal's funny ways alienated a lot of the fans, he's left United in a decent position - if not one of immense strength, then certainly with firm foundations and good potential. It'll get harder and harder for the club to remain a marketing powerhouse while finishing fifth and playing stodgy, conservative football, but if Jose delivers Champions League qualification and restores them to being something of a feared team, they'll probably put it down as a win and accept whatever mess he creates on his way out.

However tangled Van Gaal's logic became, and in fairness it was like he was going out of his way to play players out of position towards the end, his thinking was crystal clear in comparison to those higher up the totem pole at United. Next season is already shaping up to be a strange one in the Premier League. Mourinho and Guardiola have a history of taking over teams with an existing and successful core of players in their early to mid twenties, then riding the wave of success and leaving when it starts to subside a bit. Neither Manchester club could realistically lay claim to those strengths at the moment, both probably need about half a dozen new faces each to get to the level their managers are used to, then perhaps another two or three to get them to the next level.

Star Trek Beyond (2016)
Where the first trailer felt just that little bit too silly, this one suggests that there's going to be more depth to the movie, and not just as an excuse for the outrageous set pieces. The fact that they're hiding an actor of Idris Elba's calibre under a mountain of CGI is pretty disappointing, but overall I'm looking forward to it a lot more now. But they're not going to destroy the Enterprise again, are they?

Prison Break
Extremely bloody hell, almost eight years between posts there. Anyway, that was a pretty good trailer. Michael being alive isn't beyond the realms of possibility, although T-Bag being free and back on the streets doesn't really make much sense. Not that it's hard to understand why they would have wanted to bring him back, he was always one of the highlights of the show.
