It must be incredibly tricky for the writers to have to deal with such uncertainty, and yet still come up with satisfactory conclusions for the show. I wouldn't swap places with them. Oh Spock, how could you?

Lane is most definitely my favourite character, closely followed by Ken, Joan, and Roger, who still seems to get all the best lines. My feelings towards the others tend to fluctuate from week to week. Just when I think I've got someone worked out, something subtle will usually happen that totally shifts my perception of them. I suppose Pete's insecurities aren't helped by the fact that he's greased his way through the company by having a lot of business connections, as opposed to any discernable skill. He's stuck in the unenviable position of being an untalented person amongst talented people, and as a result, he tries to overcompensate in other areas. I did find his punch-up with Lane hilarious though.

I see Alex Mack, the radioactive teenager from the kids' TV series, is married to Ken Cosgrove too. I'm now half expecting Carlton Banks to turn up at some point. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm finding Pete oddly sympathetic these days. Because of his privileged background, appearances are very important to him but he never seems sure what to say, or how to react naturally to situations. Everything he does is to some extent, an act, and his every attempt to become 'one of the gang' seems to blow up in his face. His rise through the agency has, of course, added to his arrogance but still, he's a deeply unhappy fellow.

The continual rise to prominence of inarticulate ex-pros sitting in pink shirts blindly defending one of their own is far more of a problem in football than the 'ungrateful' supporters of clubs like Blackburn, Villa, Sunderland, etc. Maybe if I was sitting in a comfy studio being paid to talk a lot of hogwash it would soften my senses too but until then, I, the paying customer, am well within my rights to be fed up at winning 7 out of 37 games. And all this talk about rubbish managers carrying themselves with "dignity" is a joke (I'm sure Big Eck's huge contract helps with that), especially when two minutes later the same idiotic pundit is frantically justifying a dive in the penalty area or some other form of cheating. Listening to the rogues gallery on Soccer Saturday, the uninitiated might think Villa are lucky to have McLeish, yet his only achievement that I'm aware of has been lowering the club's standards to the point where avoiding relegation looks like cause for celebration. Contrary to popular belief, the fans actually know a thing or two about what makes a good manager. McLeish and Kean simply aren't it, and neither was Bruce.

So apparently, the release date for Infinite has now been pushed back to February 2013. I'd rather play a delayed but fully realised game than an on-time but rushed one, I suppose, but this is still a considerable bummer.

^Commiserations on the cup. Wonder if Dalglish will be thinking 'what if?' with regard to last night's team selection, which would surely have tested Chelsea a lot more at the final. While I obviously haven't watched Liverpool's every game, that was probably the best I've seen Henderson play this season. Terry on the other hand, looks slower and just generally crapper than ever before - the thought of him playing at the back for England this summer is a legitimate shudderer. And on a slightly different note, though I'm not in the least bit bothered about Blackburn one way or the other, it's hard not to feel for the fans. As usual, the media have got it completely skew-whiff - the unrest at Ewood, just as it currently is at Villa and was at Sunderland, is the result of the manager's ineptitude, not the cause of it. It's remarkable just how often the initial gut reactions of the crowd prove to be correct in the long run.

I think it's a bit like David Fincher's take on 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo', in as much as it's relatively faithful to the core issues but with enough differences to make it more than just a straight copy. If you only get into one of 'em though, I'd still recommend the Danish version. Much as I've enjoyed the US one so far, there have been a couple of real head-scratching moments that seemed to make a lot more sense in the original series. Been pretty much glued to 'The Bridge' since day one, and what I'm really loving above all else is the show's depiction of Sweden and Denmark. The scenery is quite beautiful, albeit in a stark, haunting, unfriendly kind of way. Very like Saga Noren, really. Incidentally, though I haven't yet decided who could play Saga in any possible remake, I'm thinking George Galloway for the part of Martin Rohde.

Thread cleaned. It feels like the current discussion has run it's course and been sorted out amicably, which is appreciated, but a friendly reminder all the same - please do keep it on topic, guys. Bashing, baiting and flaming of any kind are against the rules. Let's move on.

Awful news about Adam Yauch today. Pretty much everybody likes the Beastie Boys, and there are few people in music you could honestly say that about. RIP.

Here's a bit of new material by St. Vincent - not sure if it'll be in any way indicative of how the next album might sound (it's a one-off single recorded for Record Store Day) but still, it's quite the departure from 'Strange Mercy'.
