From what I've read, it all seems to stem from a contractual dispute. New laws are coming in to raise income tax for high earners in Spain and Ronaldo wants more money from Real Madrid to make up the difference. A new deal was in the midst of being negotiated but supposedly the talks have broken down, so until they sort something out, expect to see his full repertoire of 'it's not fair' faces whenever he's on the pitch.

So, anyone seen 'Asylum of the Daleks' yet? I thought it was as strong and as tight an opening episode as we really could have hoped for. Much like the 'The Impossible Astronaut', the first 15 minutes were rather slow, but the following 25 or so went by in an instant and it was more or less free of the kind of bewildering open-endedness that 'TIA' and 'Day of the Moon' had. I really liked the Dalek Parliament too, it was vast in scale and for the first time, I saw them as an actual race rather than a small group of blokes hiding underneath wobbly trolleys on wheels. Pretty cool. P.S. For those who might have missed it, the mini-adventure prequel to 'AOTD'...

Good news though, Wenger appears to have hypnotised Abou Diaby and told him he's Yaya Toure. And now for something completely different. Not sure if this video is altogether legit, but it appears to have been made by a young lady with a thing for - yes, Alan Pardew. Apologies in advance for any psychological scarring caused, I'm off now to make one of me and Eva Carneiro. http://youtu.be/hqAy_U_px8o

  8. Yeah, it didn't present itself as anything other than a good, breezy, fun superhero movie, which is exactly what it was. Whedon was the perfect person to wrangle such an extensive cast into a coherent blockbuster. With regard to Widow, there was a very short scene in the movie where she (along with Hawkeye and Captain America) ran towards a ruined building while facing away from the camera, and in that moment I briefly thought "hey, that’s not how someone with ninja fighting skills would run". Overall though, I didn’t think Scarlett came across as some skinny pin pretending to fight. She mightn't look supremely gifted athletically, but it was believable to me that she could pack a punch.

Really like that Jessica Cerro number. Very Spektor-like. Been listening to this one quite a bit too. I'm thinking Arcade Fire with the vocal interplay of the xx.

For me this is second only to Darren Bent in terms of the club making a 'next level' signing, but of course, the ball's now very much in Johnson's court. Talented as he is, I always had the vague impression that Mancini would have played him more were it not for his slightly iffy workrate when coming off the bench. Hopefully, he responds well to challenge of once again being integral to his team, knuckles down and thrives at the SOL. If he sees out his contract then great, if somewhere along the line he can't resist the lure of another big move (ala Scott Sinclair) then we get a large fee. Everybody wins. Did the Stoke fans really boo Aaron Ramsey yesterday? :persuazn:

  18. A lot of good ones so far, and a couple that I didn't actually know started out as books. Here are the four I came up with (two of which have already been mentioned). American Psycho - The relentlessly deadpan style of the book makes it pretty heavy going, while I find the reverse is true of the movie. Bale is outstanding as Bateman. Jurassic Park - By no means is it a bad book, but it's outshone and outclassed by the visual medium. Fight Club - I believe Chuck Palahniuk is on record as saying the movie was an improvement on the book. LA Confidential - A minority viewpoint I suspect, but I much preferred the streamlined, more efficient film to the densely plotted novel.

    Bazinga!
  20. So this cropped up recently in another topic and I thought it could make for an interesting subject in its own right. Are there any films that are actually better than the books they're based on?
