The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)
Seems like this is the 'Man of Steel' of 2014 in terms of how divided critical opinions and fan reactions have been, which is a shame as I'd hoped for it to generate some real momentum for the series. I personally really enjoyed it, not a perfect film by any stretch of the imagination, but a bold, punchy and generally likeable one. The amateurish quality to Spidey's crime-fighting antics is such fun, and the perfect casting of Garfield helps. Thought the new additions to the cast fit their roles very well too, despite reservations I had about some of them. Honestly thought either DeHaan or Foxx could have easily carried the movie as the sole villain. Worth making a quick plug for 'Chronicle', another superhero film that DeHaan shines in. It'll test your tolerance for the irritating and unnecessarily distracting 'handheld footage' format, but there's a little gem of a movie beneath it.

Emily Berrington
Emily Berrington is an English actress who plays Simone Al-Harazi in 24: Live Another Day. Berrington studied Development Geography at London's Kings College and worked as an aide to Labour Party MP Siobhain McDonagh before auditioning at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. While at Guildhall, she made her stage debut in the lead role of Children's Children and appeared in Michael Winterbottom's film The Look of Love, also starring Stephen Fry. After graduating in 2012, Berrington starred as Jane Shore, one of Henry VIII's mistresses, in the BBC2 miniseries The White Queen, opposite James Frain. Berrington also appeared in the comedy series Outnumbered and is soon to star in the upcoming thriller The Last Showing and the comedy sequel Inbetweeners 2.

Interstellar (2014)
I too think storytelling is Nolan's strong suit. He brings far more quality to the mainstream than it’s usually afforded, more often than not through the strength of his plots. There probably will come a point where his name gets him more recognition than his work does, but at the moment, it's not so much a case of him being overly hyped, he just so happens to be one of the few populist directors that people can regularly expect something decent from.

Interstellar (2014)
I don't see Nolan as being quite the visionary artist that some folks do but equally, I've never not liked one of his movies. I think if you compare the Dark Knight trilogy to the average comic book fare (pre-Whedon, especially), then go on to compare Inception, Memento, The Following and The Prestige to other films in their respective genres, they're all standouts. To find another big studio filmmaker who marries quality with mass appeal as consistently as Nolan, you'd probably have to look towards the realm of animation. Pixar or Miyazaki, perhaps.

Everyone should start bracing themselves for an overload of smugness from the media rogues gallery, it's a rare occasion when they can say "that kind of thing wouldn't happen in the Premier League" without it being a load of pretentious rot.

Great game to finish the Spanish season and an outstanding achievement by Atletico to take the title away from two of the highest-spending teams anywhere. Martino's strategy of blasting crosses in the general direction of one of the world's smallest forward lines rendered Barca unrecognisable on the day, although I suppose it was a bit of an injustice for them to be in with a shout at all. It's no surprise Hull didn't win the cup final, Brucey is a geordie and they're no longer interested in trophies. Arsenal have undoubtedly progressed this year, proving their resilience on many occasions throughout the season and that the anti-Wenger brigade don’t know they're born. Seventeen years in the job, not a single finish outside the top four.

Another new one by White Lung. Apparently, it's one of the slowest songs on the album.

FIFA World Cup 2014
Balotelli, Cassano, Osvaldo. You'd have been hard pressed to think of a more eccentric forward line. Shame for Giuseppe Rossi though, he seems to have such rotten luck with major international tournaments. This makes it three in a row where he's been within touching distance of the squad, only to be left out at the last moment.

So, much to the chagrin of Ashley Cole, Mario Gomez, Carlos Tevez and Samir Nasri's girlfriend, the squad announcements for the tournament are starting to roll in. Cracking Europa final tonight, at least until extra time kicked in. Beto was so far off his line for the two (admittedly woeful) penalties he saved that I thought he was going to jump into my living room. How such things aren't spotted by officials when they're so glaringly obvious is beyond me. You have to hand it to Sevilla though, their run from the qualifying rounds to the final is one of the stories of the season, and they did it all with a midfield pairing on loan from QPR and Reading.

I'd imagine that if he does end up making the move, it'll be more for financial reasons than footballing ones. Atletico manage their huge debt and stave off the taxman for a while longer, Costa potentially triples his current weekly wage.

Thread cleaned. Since we're about to start a new page, I’m using the last post on this one to draw a line under the current discussion. It's okay to express opinions, but in future please do it constructively and in a respectful manner, without resorting to bashing or baiting. Personal insults will not be tolerated.

Mad Men
I'd imagine there'd be much better options for a gay guy in Manhattan than Pete, even in the sixties. Alpha male Don is no more. I really thought he had a plan when he returned to the SCDP (if that's still what it's called) office, but he came across as little more than a meek shadow of his former self. Perhaps he'll rise again later. Also, I love Roger's conflict of becoming a hippy 'sympathiser' while also trying to remain a company man and a father. Disappointed that the final season is being stretched over such a length of time though, it's going to be at least another year before a lot of this stuff is resolved.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
First image of Batfleck and the Batmobile has been revealed. Quite like the subtle inlay of the bat symbol on the chest, only thing I'm not keen on (other than the fact that it's Affleck in the suit) is the small cat-like ears.
