I still need to play Origins. I had given up on the AC franchise, until all of the good reviews for AC: O made me give it a try.

I know but to me the canon protagonist is Kassandra. I much preferred the voice work. I also think Alexios works better as an NPC.

Did you play AC:O? IMHO, Kassandra is a far superior protagonist compared to Alexios. In general I find it odd to assume a game is going to be rubbish just because the main character is female. Or male for that matter.

The full extent of Gina' cancellation is that her character wasn't asked to return to a popular SW show. I also don't get her reasoning, TBF. Pedro Pascal is the biggest name associated with that show. I am going to assume she must have been aware of him having a trans sister when she made that bad joke of putting R2D2 sounds as her pronouns. Not insulting people who are in a position to make or break your career seems like pretty straightforward to me. If your boss is overweight, you wouldn't exactly make fat jokes around him, would you? Well you shouldn't make fat jokes anyway, but you get my meaning.

Women's breasts don't suddenly go up entire cup sizes at the age of 27. So if there is a noticeable difference - and I do think there is in some recent shots - then that is either an illusion created with the help of chicken cutlets or some for of augmentation has been done.

No Man's Sky is another example of a game that tried to use procedural generation as the entire basis of their game-play, yes. Well the golden grail of a procedurally generated game would be one that gives each player - and through each new playthrough - a completely unique experience. So the world is unique, the enemies are unique, the NPC companions are unique, the story is unique... A small indie game that has experimented a bit with procedurally generated story lines is Wildermyth.

Procedurally generated means that much of the game is created within the engine itself. Thus the modeling/animation does not have to be done by the video game creators, they instead create a game engine that does this for them. One early and famous example of this was Spore. This is the direction I thought a significant portion of the games industry would go in in the past thirteen of fourteen years. Instead they have mostly continued to make games the same way, only occasionally using this new way of thinking. e.g. in the Nemesis system for Shadow of Mordor. But I believed that by 2022 procedural generation would be the bedrock upon which many games are entirely built. Instead it is still more of a gimmick or an afterthought. Especially with ever increasing computing power of the game machines, it would make sense that this is the next frontier for gaming.

In general I am pretty sad about the state of the video games industry. Ten years ago, I would have imagined that super-exciting stuff would be happening right now. Especially in terms of procedurally generated games. But the industry as a whole only ever embraced that development in a very limited way, instead doing things largely the old-fashioned way, only with ever ballooning budgets. Had they made better/different choices in the past like 10-14 years, the video games industry probably looks very different right now, even from a purely technological sense.

I don't know why she would have thought that putting in beep bop boop instead would not be interpreted as mocking the practice. Especially if the sister of the star of the show you are on is a trans woman who literally has her pronouns in her social media profiles...

I think Gina's problem in terms of losing her Mandalorian gig has more to do with the fact that she spoke out against trans people and the star of that show (Pedro Pascal) has a trans sister. That was probably the biggest contributing factor to her character getting dropped.

Well the Cyberpunk story is sad because it was the corporate side of the company that pushed through its release even though it wasn't near completion. The creative side was rightly angry when it was subsequently revealed how disastrous that turned out to be for the company's reputation. The release should have been pushed back by at least a year. But that is part of the equation, since these entities are now largely controlled by people who don't care much about the medium, just about how much money they can make from it.

I like Hailey so it pains me a bit to say that what they've released of her so far is some of the worst work I have ever seen from her. I don't know how SI keeps on doing this at this point. You almost have to try to suck this much.

Yeah, it's so rarely that I play something that really impresses me or makes me think "oh wow that is truly original". The consolidation of the gaming industries within a small handful of companies has been bad for innovation imho.

XCOM 2 Wasteland 3 Crusader Kings III Desperados III I do remember that I did play a few more bigger games released after AC:O Control & the Resident Evil 3 remake.

I haven't really played many triple A games recently. Probably the last one was AC Odyssey. So that is years ago. When I do play nowadays it tends to be more indie or smaller studio content.

A more important question: WTAF should I care about a little conflict between a super-wealthy podcaster and a super-wealthy rock star?

Ken Levine has also gone off to do his own thing, but his new game has been in development hell for years now.
