To be fair, this isn't Luc Besson's best movie by any means and he has essentially made this movie before and better (La Femme Nikita). I enjoyed it for what it was. Besson was always going to get bad press for the MeToo stuff.

Most of those relationships (which started out with one of the two being a minor) don't last. It's because of a difference in maturity when they start out. Then the younger partner matures and realizes that the older partner is no longer what they want.
