No one in the real world hate movies as much as people hate movies online. As for audience/user scores on different sites, there have been multiple looks into how easy it is for a small group (or a small number of bots) to significantly move a score up or down.

You can find discrepancies like that for new and old shows and movies, some that look like this and some that favor the audience score. There are many different reasons this happens. As for this particular show, you may be right about the reason. Since I haven't watched it, I don't have an opinion.

What should be learned from this franchise is fairly simple (to me anyway): don't keep making the same movie over and over. Generally, successful franchises work because of variety.

I don't think I will ever understand how worked up people get because a movie stars women: "They are remaking a movie and putting women in staring roles. Childhood ruined." If only people could wait for the "offending" movie to come out. It may be a good movie or a bad movie, just like movies staring men. Of course, that doesn't work either because the complaints are the same after the movie comes out, even when the person complaining hasn't seen the movie.
