When there is a large gap like that example, critics almost certainly have inflated their number. That's only half of the story though. The deflation of the audience number through review bombing and other methods is the other side of how those kinds of differences in numbers show up. These types of campaigns against certain shows and movies is well documented, and it happens for many reasons (I'm too lazy to list those). Anecdotally, I have noticed this on multiple women-led movies and shows when there is no way people have even seen the movie/show yet. I am not saying these projects ended up being good or that I even saw them, just that I don't think the reviewers saw them either. All of this is why I try to avoid any reviews before seeing something (movies or shows), but occasionally I make a mistake and look.
