Few observers could argue that Fall/Winter 2017 has been a truly stellar season for Luna Bijl, but up to now, the stunning Dutch up-and-comer’s career journey has been far from conventional. Long before her recent runway appearances for Alexander Wang, Louis Vuitton and Chanel introduced her to a new audience, 19-year-old Luna was making waves with her editorial work, connecting with some of the most renowned figures in the fashion industry and building a portfolio bookended by two cover stories for Vogue Paris and a high-profile Chloe campaign.
Forging her own path has undoubtedly been a way of life for Luna since childhood. A self-confessed tomboy and a keen motocross rider while growing up, she initially found parallels between her passion for racing and modelling’s ability to push her out of her comfort zone. Today, she credits her love of adventure and capacity to deal with fierce competition to her sporty background, still regularly taking to Instagram to post photos of herself on her bike.
This month, following its Spring 2017 advertising campaign starring Lily Jean Harvey, the UK based high-street fashion label Topshop has enlisted Luna to take centre stage in its Summer 2017 campaign. Lensed in the sunny outdoors by leading fashion photographer Giampaolo Sgura, Luna wears a host of charming romantic designs in the light and breezy, sun soaked surroundings.
