Okay, I have to admit. I was not expecting a non-Asian to receive that outfit. BUT, judging from experiences in the past, there's still hope that an Asian will wear what is representative of their own culture. Remember 2014 when Sui was supposedly wearing Constance's outfit for Gilded Angel and they had it switched up? So don't count things out, even though chances are Lais probably has that outfit secured already.

 

But that aside, the dress does look a bit heavy on the bottom. 50% of the cape is meant to be stringy, the decor shouldn't be at ground bottom. As in, those small little paraphernalia at the end of the cape should be higher and and based on the sketch, they should have been in strands. If VS isn't giving that to an Asian model then my only thought is the Asians will wear a western-themed outfit in TRA. Cause Sophia roughly said "culture is a part of our universe", maybe that segment is meant to open up our eyes to different cultures by having non-culturally representative models wear them, like an exchange of culture I s'pose. 

 

And I suppose they didn't hit it well with the lingerie, the bra and is meant to be pastel purple. But ahh, maybe its just making it come to life. Jane Kennedy draws the best fashion illustrations I've ever seen, it's the designer's problem for not making it come to life as much.

Does anyone think VS might get some bad press about the Road Ahead segment? They cut Karlie's American Indian outfit from the broadcast back in 2012 and pulled  the Halloween lingerie collection that had a geisha because of negative press. And now the Road Ahead looks completely Asian inspired. Now I know none of us care about that but let's face it people are way too PC these days. I just think they're bound to get backlash over it and they're idiots for even doing a segment like this with all that "culture appropriation" nonsense that gets thrown around. For their sakes I hope they don't.

I think they might but Sophia was saying when she was explaining it that it's about globalization and it was clear from her words that she was being careful about what she said so I think that they're ready for it.

Yeah. You'd think though after having this issue twice they would think not to create a whole segment that takes inspiration from different Asian cultures.

I can see them getting backlash. Like you said, people are really PC and there's SJW all over the place who take things to extremes. So even if Sophia is wording it carefully and they do the same on the broadcast, people will still find something to bitch about.

@ceceshores the funny thing is the SJW are usually white people who by acting offended feel like they're not being racist  I'm of Arabic decent and I wouldn't give a shit if VS used Arabic inspired looks for the runway.

There is a difference between inspiration and cultural appropriation. Ie) A headdress is a culturally specific garment that has a history tied to that cultural and the wearer is supposed to earn the right to wear one, where as many traditional Asian clothing items are simply that- everyday clothing items. It often encouraged and sometimes considered respectful to wear such clothing pieces when visiting. I could definitively seeing VS facing some backlash over this from the extremists but it's really not the same as Karlie's headdress. And that's all I'm going to say on this since I know the majority won't see eye to eye on this. 

 

Elsa has her fittings tomorrow. I'm going to guess Jasmine does as well. What other Angels are left? Taylor, Lais, Stella, Sara and Martha are all done?

@Kevork89 I have the same curiosity as you did with TRA, but @PinkCouture forbade me from even talking a single bit of it after the warning. Personally, inspiration or culture appropriate, some people will find something to say. In this case, that Asian dress might seem like an inspiration so its probably fine to just design it. But I'm sure some people would have preferred seeing an Asian in that outfit. And to be honest, Lais fitting in to that that feels out of place. 

 

Which reminds me... Personal note to Pink, like I said, someone else might have had the same thought. What's your reasoning for the warning? Haven't gotten your response on Kells calling a model ugly in an inappropriate way too.

Armando replied to this Insta post saying that this isn't the design for the look she's wearing. Atleast that's how I interpreted it. 

 

I think the look Sara is wearing is look 6, or possibly 9 on this version of the look board.

It looks more similar to what she has on, plus the wing matchs. The sketch that people she is wearing is look 2 on Secret Angel. I'm excited about that because I love the lace gloves+corset combo in that sketch so I'm happy that we will potentially see that full look come to life. Not a toned down version which is what I assumed when I saw Sara with that look.
