So except for a release date not much information is out yet:

Quote
The film storyline is inspired by the "Justice League" comics 'The New Frontier' (a squad of heroes are formed to combat an ancient threat), 'JLA' (the Justice League combats alien threats), and 'The New 52' (Darkseid appears on Earth, in consequence forming the Justice League), as well as The Avengers.

In September 2007 George Miller had signed on to direct, but by 2010 he finally left the project.

Share this At around October 2007, <a href="http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004306/">George Miller had cast the Justice League completely: D.J. Cotrona as Superman, Armie Hammer as Batman, model Megan Gale as Wonder Woman, rapper Common as Green Lantern/John Stewart, Adam Brody as the Flash/Barry Allen, Santiago Cabrera as Aquaman/Arthur Curry, and Hugh Keays-Byrne as the Martian Manhunter (J'onn J'onzz). However, he couldn't begin filming immediately and the cast went on to do other films.

What is quite interesting is that Chris Nolan has already said he would not touch JL and now Christian Bale has also stated to not play Batman anymore.

We already knew that Christian Bale probably wasn’t going to show up as Batman in the upcoming Justice League movie, the Avengers-style supergroup of DC heroes. First, Bale said that he wouldn’t do another Batman movie unless Nolan opted for a fourth Dark Knight chapter, which Nolan says isn’t happening. Then Man of Steel and Dark Knight screenwriter David S. Goyer confirmed that the Justice League’s Batman would be a rebooted character. So that pretty much closed the book.

Still, with news like this, sometimes you just have to hear it from the man himself.

“We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy,” says Bale, who called EW to promote his upcoming revenge drama Out of the Furnace (in theaters Nov. 27). “Chris [Nolan] always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ‘We’re about to make the third.’ We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well.”

The actor says he hasn’t even been involved in official talks about a Justice League movie. ”I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it.” But he says he’s not sad to pass Batman’s cowl into new hands: “It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”

With both a tremendous director and actor gone, I'm curious to see how this plays out..

I don't know about this, I'm all for superheros but without Nolan & Bale I'm not too excited. And the thought of Ryan Reynols reprising his Green Lantern role makes me want to cry and not in a good way. They will need to do a hard job casting everyone.

I love my Cavill but I'm not quite sure even he can pull this off.

Green Lantern was just awful, absolutely awful.

Like I said before, only a release date being out makes me suspect that WB simply wants to use Justice League to cash in on the Avengers-money.

But then again, I do follow the superhero-scene and I'm still curious

Did you like the Avengers, W? To my understanding, this 'Justice League' is something similar- they take all the superheroes together and choose breadth over 'depth'. It won't have a deep story at all, but it'll probably have a lot of flashy stuff.

I can't comment on this; I have no idea who the director and these actors are.

If it does go head-to-head with Avengers It would be a huge mistake from WB. The Avengers has a long list of established actors currently playing superheroes who are all in contract to be in the film: Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye they're all confirmed already for the sequel.

All WB has is Henry Cavill playing Superman and that's it, and so far we don't even know if they will be releasing another one in 2014 but we do know that Christian Bale is done with Batman. I don't think he alone with a bunch of newbies are strong contenders for Paramount. Heck even I love Superman (and I love my Cavill even more, my heart still belongs to Hemsworth though) but I still I would go to The Avengers 2 without thinking it twice. So I really think they shouldn't release this movie at the same time as the Avengers.

To be really honest: meh.

I mean- it wasn't bad, but there was such a hype around it, and I will never understand why.

I thought it was rather boring.

But hey- it stars a lot of hot guys so you won't here me complaining :shifty:

And I agree with MissLima, especially since the Avengers have a huge fanbase.

WB is so far just being smart by milking out The Amazing Spiderman,

Yup, maybe a The Amazing Spiderman 2 vs. Thor 2/Captain America 2 would be a good box office battle.

But Avengers would smash and destroy The Justice League right now, unless WB comes out with two good DC superheroes before Justice League it's released then they stand no chance next to Paramount's Avengers :idk:

I agree, and I think casting a new Batman is the one thing they'll really have to nail if there's going to be any hope for this. They'll also need to be confident enough to give him his own reboot first, because it'd be extremely difficult to bring him in during the events of a collective movie.

As for Green Lantern, I wouldn't be surprised if Reynolds was already signed up for a multi-movie deal with a view to the eventual release of Justice League. I'm not his biggest fan, but he packs a bit of star power and brought some humour to otherwise iffy superhero movies like Blade Trinity and Wolverine. Though of course, my expectations would be far, far higher for JL than for either of those films.

Yeah, I feel the same way.   :)

I rated the Avengers 3/5 (thought it was fun but disposable after one viewing) and I also wrote that it's a movie that doesn't aim any higher.  :-)  It also filled with hardcore merchandising/licensing.  With a movie like this, the box office is merely the tip of the iceberg; the rest are movie tie-ins, dvd/blu-rays, children's toys, video games, TV broadcasting, etc.

As far as the Avengers/ JL goes, I don't believe that the two franchises are directly competing with each other; they mostly enhance each other.  The Avengers appear to be more popular than the latter but I can't think of a causal reason why superhero fans would ignore one but not the other if both appear to be well made.

I wish that the Avengers had some beautiful women.  Instead, we got a badly miscast Scarlett..

Green Lantern flopped so bad that Ryan Reynolds has already said he probably won't be back for a sequel.

To be honest I think that doing JL right now is a huge mistake. It's too soon to reboot Batman and especially since Bale is so fresh in our minds playing the character in such an amazing way. I think that WB needs to wait at least a good three to five years to establish some more superheroes before attempting to do JL relaying just on the superheroes being the hit thing right now in the Box Office.

If this isn't done well it's going to flop like many other big projects that were safe bets: Daredevil, Green Lantern, John Carter, Battleship & the super recently The Lone Ranger.

Most of those films were also poor films on their own.   I think you emphasize 'the box office' a bit too much.   :)   Studio executives should be assumed to be rational, not irrational.

In the US it's an open secret that the 'box office' is only a minority portion of what a film needs to wing just to be profitable.  It gets undue emphasis only due to the fact that it is the only immediately visible portion.   Most comic book movies' main income is not from the brief period of showing the movies in the theaters, but rather the whole process which can take many years to unfold.  Movies bomb in the box office or barely break even all the time, but eventually turn in a profit for studios years down the line (cable, blu-rays, dvds, licensing, etc.)  Comic book movies have even more future earnings to look forward to.

The movies you state, outside of Battleship (perhaps), are probably going to win in the long run.  I'm pretty sure that Daredevil has.

There's probably a parallel universe where the script and direction for the first Green Lantern movie were placed in safer hands, and where Reynolds is now enjoying a good run in a very successful franchise. With tons of fun background content, aliens and magic, emotional spectrum and colourful characters, it’s a story that could and should have been so easy to get right. :/

That being said, though the negative fan reaction and poor reviews for GL would have probably left a bad taste in his mouth, I do still think he’d jump at the chance to do a Justice League movie if they were able to get a decent script together and/or a big name director on board.

Ah, Scarlett.

Beautiful, sweet, funny and all around perfect if she wasn't such a terrible actress :p

And I agree with all of the above saying that it will be tough, but can be done if a good director is attached.

Question is, who wants to burn their butt, because people are going to complain no matter what

Do you have children by any chance?

Because I do and if the movie sucks your children won't want to buy the Blu-Ray, the action figures, the costumes, the sweaters or anything. Daredevil is that, Green Lantern is that ... You don't see kids dressing as GL in Halloween right? But you'll see lots of kids dressing up as Iron Man, Spider Man, Thor and I'm sure this Halloween there will be a lot of Superman asking for candy too. So the box office IS a big deal. In order to make a character profitable you need the movie to be successful so you can sell everything else related to the movie.

Nope.  This is about intellectual property rights :)

I never said that this was not important; in fact I stated that it was.   :) That's the bonus that comic book movies enjoy over more conventional productions.

Every time you buy a blu-ray or see a movie from on TV, there are deals that have been made and renewed:  royalties and licensing revenue fees that make their way up to the studio and IP owners.  They get a cut.  This occurs on a global scale (that's a lot of channels..) for big studio pictures/media corporations, and even box office bomb action films do quite well on Blu-ray/DVD, rentals, and international broadcasting.   As I said, it's a long process.  A box office bomb  (like John Carter, which caused a publicly disclosed reporting write-off) will hurt the producers in the near term, but then there's the next ten to twenty years of monetization so the ultimate fate of the project is still unknown.   The production budgets (mostly marketing and distribution) for a film during its theater tenure is only the first stage.  Box offices revenues aren't big enough to make or break many projects during their lifetime.  Daredevil, for instance, was a frequent fixture on cable TV.

Did you know that many movie theaters in the US make most of their money off of their concessions stand?

I'm sure she is...in person.. :)

I saw Scarlett's breakout film with Murray (Lost in Translation), and her acting wasn't even good there.  Lost in Translation was a good film, though.  Then she started getting promoted as this 'great, talented beauty' for several years, and produced several poor performances.  :neo2:

I doubt we'll be seeing Reynolds as Green Lantern again. If we do get a Justice League movie we'll most likely be having the John Stewart Green Lantern, not Hal Jordan. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson seems to be set on playing him. Warner Bros had been eyeing up him and Jason Momoa for roles. Jason is possibly going to be Aquaman, which I wouldn't mind. I think they really don't want people to view Aquaman as a lame superhero anymore - though the comics did do that themselves, seriously, giving him a pink seahorse to ride, then him refusing to allow people into the ocean when the city was burning, not to mention the other members of the JL were helping but he wasn't..

By the time a Justice League movie comes around, if we will get one but Warner Bros are really pushing for 6 King Arthur movies.., it probably wouldn't be released until around the same time as The Avengers 3. One way to make it possible for kicking The Avengers 3 butt is to have the JL established within Man of Steel 2, or a standalone Batman movie if they were to do one before a JL movie. Then have the final movie before a JL be based on 'The Death of Superman'. That comic made headlines worldwide when it came out in the 90's. I'm sure if they were to do a live action movie based around that comic it would also bring worldwide news. We all know Superman comes back, so make him comeback in the Justice League movie, everyone would be keen to see him return. I doubt they would do something like that though which is probably a good thing, I don't think I could watch Superman die.
