It's not about being sexy Maiya, it's about selling magazines and honestly the SI group this year Kate is the only one who has selling power. Alyssa may be attractive (debatable sometimes, her eye brows wig me out) but she doesn't have a name that will sell. Same goes for Anne, Julie, even Nina, (who only started get street cred after her super bowl commercial and that's not as much as everyone wants to believe either).

Kate is the biggest name out of all of them if you look at Google trends, and she's had the highest profile year when it comes to national recognition. So no, any of the girls who "hate" on Kate because she got the cover seriously need to grow up and realize it's not about them not being attractive, or not being liked by the SI crew, it's about them not being capable/able of selling the most magazines.

You don't go into SI to get popular, you need to learn how to market yourself on the side and get other jobs that will bring you to national recognition to get the cover. You either need to date someone famous who's relevant, or you need to become known to the average Joe on the street. It's not about being sexy, because let's face it the standard rule of thumb is you should be sexy before even going to castings for the magazine. The cover is a different story entirely.

They want people to pick up the magazine because there's a sexy girl on the cover yes, but they also want people to pick up the magazine because So and So is on the cover. It's about public recognition and selling power. They're not looking for a cult classic, they're looking for an instant hit. Kate's dougie made her an instant success, because it was a video that went viral and was viewed by millions of people. She continued on that trend for the past year with another viral dance video and her Carl's Jr. commercial. So because she's relevant to the average Joe she'll get the cover because she'll sell and they'll make money.

Marisa Miller is the perfect example for this, she did SI for six years which means that SI peoples liked her and they kept calling her and nothing happened because she wasn't going to sell. Then she becomes a VS Angel, gets national press, becomes the hot girl of the moment & gets national recognition & dayum 2008 she's on the cover. Ana BB did SI for years and she never got the cover because she was never going to sell as much as Marisa or Petra or anyone who got the cover over her

i agree that generally any of the SI models would sell well, simply because it's a brand and regardless of the girl. but i guess it ultimately came down to we can give X a shot and hope she sells out or we can go with the guaranteed money in Kate, esp for the 50th issue. Is it necessarily right or wrong? and to be fair to Kate she has worked her butt off this year in comparison to say Chrissy Teigan, who i don't really follow, but i've only seen her do SI work.
