As far as models looking masculine, they are supposed to. Models are supposed to be hangers. In high fashion, they dont want pretty or curvy because it distracts from the clothing. Edgy and adrogynous are very popular however since the credit crunch more commercial looking models are in demand. Advertisers are playing it safe but there are remniates of the super edgy adrogynous models still. There will always be room for them but the new wave of models are anyone's guess. Beauty comes in all shapes and forms. Everyone has an opinion of what is attractive. While I agree some models are too thin and others are not cut out to be Victoria secret models, there are models who are branded so well that vs can't turn them down. Ten years ago Candice swanepoel would have never been a vs model because she is too thin and too editorial. Twenty years ago, commercial girls were in SI not the hf girls who were deemed too pretty. Being a top model isnt about beauty its about being lucky. Having the right people behind you and knowing the right people is crucial. Basically it's not what you know it's who you know. Do you think Kate moss would have been as huge if she didnt date Johnny depp or keep in the press due to her bad behavior? Do you think Irina shayk would have gotten the cover of SI without dating ronaldo? Yes, she is pretty and has a good body but it's more about getting your name out there and being surrounded by the right people. You guys can try and convince one another your model is pretty or talented but at the end of the day appeal doesn't matter. What the model books does. Whether I like candice swanepoel not doesn't matter because she is a top model. Are there better models than her absolutely but that's not the way this industry works.

Such a small portion of the worlds women is over 177 cm. of those women how many are a sample size? And you want them to be gorgeous too? You're lucky if ten percent of the world is gorgeous let alone all those other requirement of height, weight, and good hair and skin. It's a lot too ask for. As far as the doutzen pics, of course she looks bad in that one pic its not a professional picture. No one looks perfect at the beach.

As for the Doutzen comment, I was talking about her shoulder/ hip width. That doesn't change at all whether she's at the beach or in a ball gown. I chose a picture where she has no clothing to create imaginary contours and sans Photoshop, because they Photoshop the crap out of her figure to make it less Male-V.

Oh jeez! As usual modelknowledge u are completely off the mark! This is not a thread to explain by a+b what a model is (high fashion/commercial/catalog/etc) but just a thread for members to convince another one about the beauty of a girl. Yes beauty is in the eyes of the beer beholder but it's a place for a fan (or not) to talk about the beauty of a model he/she like. Nothing more than that. Can't you just be for once let the technical aspect of the "I am going to explain you what a model is, because only me know"? and go with the flow? I know being a model is not all about beauty. It's more complex than a gorgeous face and a "perfect" body.

And, yeah, a lot of members love "commercial" models and a lot of other (I am talking about me there!) are living/breathing/knowing the fashion world and models since more than 20 years (and I am only 37)

Maybe its just me, but its that mouth of hers.......her top lips kinda curl up like a litle snarl, and it exposes her teeth, which are not super straight or perfect, but oddly gorgeous, and make her look somewhat exotic.

Also not forgetting her eyes are a piercing blue color.

Also that body....shes got an amazing waist to hip ratio, fuller thighs, quite the hourglass body

About one year ago (maybe a bit more) I was just like u. To me she was a very prettycute girl but also pretty boring. Same face on every single pictures and it was looking like modeling was boring her to death. Then she evolved as a model (take time to look at her thread and u'll see the difference) and I start to find her more interesting. She is looking more like a woman now and that's what I like. I really don't think she is uber beautiful but i find her beauty (face) touchingly simple. I don't look at the model, i look at the girl and i find her ravissante* as we say in French =) Her nose is maybe a bit too big and and the shape of her face (chin) is a bit too long and she might have a "washed" look (gaze) sometimes but all the things put together are working damn fine I think!

Karlie has beyond lovely features. She has naturally arched eyebrows, thin lips that curl up like a little fierce snarl, and high cheeckbones with a long face. All her features are proportioned beautifullly. Also she has a very long and lean body that is naturally skinny without looking too skinny. Also not to bring up the fact that she is naturally an incredible model. Alot of people are beautiful out there, alot of people are striking out there, but very few can actually bring out a sense of emotion and art in photography like karlie can

I will never deny that she is great model. I just don`t find her beautiful at all , especially in Candids. I don`t like her mouth and her face. Her body is too thin and muscular for my liking.

^Her body is rather thin, but she is very naturally thin, which makes her incredible for high fashion. Shes also not anorexic thin, so thats good. Shes not classically beautiful, but shes oddly beautiful, the stuff that would look ugly on other people oddly works on her and is proportioned beautifully on her face. Ok, Lindsay is not cookie-cutter beautiful but her face is very interesting and appealing. Her face is kinda mix of unique,weird and classical beauty. She looks like a porcelain doll come to life but it is not the perfect dollface but face with flaws and these flaws are part of her charm. Many models are often compared with others but Lindsey is Lindsey. It is something childish in her face-her dimples or her big eyes... Her features are a little exagerrated -her mouth is small but very full and her face seems to be so dollish and I personally really appreciate it .She has a strong presence and big potential. You go girl!
