Cult Icon Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 I finished half of Storm of Swords. There is a very brief moment of sexual tension in Jaime's thoughts over Brienne that didn't make it to the show. Also the drama with Stannis and the Red Woman, and the prophecy comes across as being inspired by Shakespeare's MacBeth without plagiarism. In Macbeth, the witches are ugly, and are the 'other', while in GOT the beautiful Melissandre is Stannis' advisor. She is a sexy sorceress instead of a crooked nose witch. The rigidity and honor of Stannis is excessive, dangerous even (he is kind of like a less charming Ned Stark) and his enthrallment with Melissandre is a rather interesting juxtaposition. However it hasn't been explored enough in the show and is still mysterious in the books so far. Like Macbeth, Stannis chases a prophecy based on magic. I'm starting to understand why book reads and superfans were so disappointed with season 5-8. These characters were building up to something bigger than what we got in the show. Quote

The thing is that the Western world is the least homophobic, racist, sexist and colonialist place in the world. Yet, we call each other -ists and -phobes every day, because it flatters the ego of some people. I would suggest CNN, MSNBC and the twitter mobs go to Saudi Arabia one day... In Somalia (where Ilhan Omar comes from) there is the capital punishment for homosexuality. What is Ilhan doing against it? Quote

SympathysSilhouette Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Seems like 75% of remaining staff rejected Musk's "Hardcore" Twitter. If that number is accurate he doesn't even have 1000 employees left. Remember that 7000 people worked there before the takeover. Entire departments are now gone. Site is now probably living on borrowed time. Quote
SympathysSilhouette Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 There are other reports out there that suggest that the remaining number of twitter employees is not under 1000. It is closer to under 300. If that is remotely true then twitter is already a zombie site/app. Quote
SympathysSilhouette Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 I thought the idea that Musk had bought Twitter just to destroy it was too absurd to be true. It is getting increasingly hard to make sense of what he is doing if that was not his ultimate goal. Quote

He complained about Twitter for years in interviews and on the platform itself, so it is not that surprising to me. He doesn't like twitter despite being one of the top influencers on the platform. Cult Icon Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 All of it could be very exaggerated too. A drama queens' platform's death over-dramatized by the platform workers themselves... Quote

Yeah but there is a huge difference between not liking a company and spending 44 billion to buy it just to destroy it. Quote

I think his goal was to dramatically change it (if not destroy it) and make something else in the first place. He has stated such things in open and in talks. Quote
SympathysSilhouette Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Okay I'm now convinced he actually does want to destroy it, and is just having fun by acting like a troll to the leftover staff in the process. The thing I do not get is his desire to burn $44 billion in record time and to tarnish his reputation in the process. There are some rumblings online that Musk is actually doing this at the behest of some super-wealthy parties that want to get rid of Twitter and that he won't be holding the entire $44 billion bag when the music ends. Enrico_sw Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 Twitter was a Stalinist cesspool before Musk. Anything is an improvement now These people were so peaceful people before Musk Quote
