Yep......... our only saving grace that it's heating up with high 80's right now and will have 90 degree days in a couple to few weeks if that even works.

Do you believe the NBA will back this year?

Do you believe there will be anymore sports this year?

Posted this here to not mess up the other thread. From the smart people I have watched and read it seems like sports with fans can't happen until there is a vaccine.

Sports without fans may be possible but no one has figured it out yet. A lot of leagues around the world are watching to see how China does it with their basketball league. If China hasn't worked out how to make that work yet, it is going to be a long time for most countries to do it.

I keep seeing economists saying that the rebound from this economic crisis will be quick as soon as the virus situation is fixed. I wonder if they would still say that if someone told them the virus, and the social restrictions that go with them, will definitely last through the middle of 2021.

It seems like the only way to keep the economies of the world alive is to figure out how immunity works with this virus and get the immune people back to work. People thought South Korea and Hong Kong had it figured out, but they are still having virus spread with significant restrictions in place (and they are doing better than everyone else).

I think there are too many ifs for sports to resume until May or June of next year. :idk:

I think that would be the most reasonable thing to do.

The longer the shutdown lasts beyond the restrictions, the longer the economy will take to rebound in my opinion.

the problem with economists trying to forecast things is that there really hasn't been anything quite like this in recent American economic/financial history to form well informed opinions on.  They could try to see how other countries dealt with SARs and so forth but those are other countries with their own particular institutions.    Basically they are speculators.

Half of the problem is concentrated in New York and New Jersey so far so the rest of the country should not be so effected. CT is slightly less than Bergen county.

In looking at the data, I think my towns (2), optimistically could end with under 500 infected if the growth dips in a week.  If it continues for 2-3 weeks we may end at under 1000 infected.

I forgot to mention that the NFL is still holding their draft later this month, don't know how they'll change up the format to meet the guidelines.

I don't know their specific plans either but all the drafts should be easy to do remotely, everyone doesn't have to be together. I think the transfer window should work, also. Of course, everyone may be getting players for seasons that won't happen.

I agree!

I read that the NFL sent out a memo to teams and players forbidding them from voicing any displeasure regarding the draft.

Now would be a great time to realize that all the money that is wasted in "gender studies"  (and all kinds of grievance BS and obscurantist subject areas) could be put to much better use if it's used for real science, like medicine, biology, physics...
