Sports Illustrated cover model and actress Kate Upton is joining James Franco's The Disaster Artist, a making-of story about The Room, often regarded as the worst film of all time. Franco is directing the film, while also starring as the eccentric Tommy Wiseau, director and star of the 2003 drama, which developed a strong cult following, including among celebrities, who loved it in a "so bad it's good" way. Greg Sestero, who co-starred in The Room, and Tom Bissell wrote the 2013 nonfiction book The Disaster Artist, which chronicled the shoot. Sestero described his life as a struggling actor and what it was like to work with the mysterious and eccentric Wiseau, who had no filmmaking experience when he set out to write, direct and produce The Room, which centers on a man named Johnny whose fiancee, Lisa, cheats on him with his best friend, Mark. Franco's brother Dave (Neighbors) is attached to play Sestero (who played Mark) in Disaster Artist, and Seth Rogen and Josh Hutcherson also are set to appear in the film. Ari Graynor, Jacki Weaver, Hannibal Burress and Andrew Santino recently joined the cast. Rogen also is producing through his Point Grey Pictures, along with Evan Goldberg, Vince Jolivette and James Franco. Good Universe is producing as well. Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who penned The Spectacular Now and The Fault in Our Stars, wrote the script. The project is set to begin shooting this week. As a model, Upton has been featured on the covers of Sports Illustrated and Vogue. She has also been building up an acting career, appearing in 2011’s Tower Heist and 2012’s The Three Stooges before landing one of the three lead roles in The Other Woman, opposite Cameron Diaz and Leslie Mann. The Fox comedy earned $196.7 million worldwide in 2014. Additionally, she has a role in The Layover, William H. Macy’s upcoming comedy about two friends on a road trip, which will also star Alexandra Daddario. She is with William Morris Endeavor. Her thread is basically instagram pictures and paparazzi pictures as well as endless commentary. It's not like she is doing a lot of editorial, commercial, or catalog work. She is in LA focusing on acting and the modeling work she does land is the basic run of the mill actress like modeling gigs. Any objections?
