I can think of a lot more. I kinda have to agree with Pheno *shocker*, however unlike Pheno, I hold her in less regard.. She's not that great. A legend makes me want to know them, to care about them, to try and understand them, and she does not in any way shape or form. Banged a president, which btw is cheap and tacky and shows a real sense of her character. Sorry Jackie! , shitty movies, drugs, untimely death. What's so great?

Just because media outlets have forced someone down your throat to the point where they have become pop culture fodder doesn't make them a legend. And if it does, are they really a legend for the right reasons? Yes yes we all know how stellar of a legend Heath is right now, right? RIGHT?! Michelle Obama, Jackie Kennedy, Anne Frank, Princess Diana, Helen Keller, Jana Fonda, Rosa Parks... hell even Madonna. Thoses are legends for me. Marilyn vs the Woman who helped kicked start the civil rights movement? Marilyn won that round right? RIGHT?!!

5, an American legend yes and she might be known for her scandles in other countries. She's more infamous than anything.

Sure she's been profiled everywhere and etc. She was pushed to us at the time because she didn't fit the mold of what women should act like...IMO she's on the same level as Holly Madison (who I adore) but she's not a legend. Sure Marilyn had some good movies, but a legend no. Known for her bad behavior and pushed down our throats? yes.

If she was truly a legend she's be remembered more as who she really was Norma Jean not was portrayed and pushed into the media. If she was a legend you should be able to go to any country and ask who Norma Jean was and who she became.

^ hmmm ... good point. Eventhough a lot of people try to immitate her ... do they really know the full story? And infamous is certainly an appropriate word.

Marilyn is a legend because she's famous in many many countries and by old ,and young people....she is a legend because many people are inspired by her, Now we don't care to know why she is a legend if it's because she was nice or dirty... legend it's the result of something good or bad..morevoer we can't compare Marilyn to Anne Frank, they are both legends but not in the same category....Marilyn is a cinema legend, an icon, Anne was an historical legend for different reasons...

and Madonna? maybe she will be a legend, we will see that in 50 years ...but for the moment there are more people who knows Marilyn than Madonna....

and princess diana became a legend because she is dead in sad circumstance....

Marilyn is a legend for her category we can't compare political and artistic category

and sorry if people wants just inspire her fashion look...I don't see the problem...some people inspire by Jackie Kennedy fashion style and she hasn't an exemplary life too...really I don't see the problem

I think the problem is some people are talking about legend and others are talking about legacy . Her legendary status isn't really up for debate. It pretty much speaks for itself all over hollywood and around the world.

But the quality of her "legacy" is left up for the interpretation. Example, whether Mandy Moore has a better legacy is debatable, whereas who has more legendary status isn't.
