Unf he does look hot in that video. Yes. Classy too - like a gentleman. I think it's just some of the camera lights didn't agree with the makeup the people put on his face before the premiere. But whatever. I loved his suit & also the silver tie.

I know he's used to it by now - or...grown accustomed to it. But I always wonder how in the heck he keeps his cool when all those people are screaming your name and taking photos. I wonder how any celeb does it. But since Leo rarely, if ever, does red carpet, it seems like the FREAK OUT is tripled with him. I would have a nervous breakdown if that many people were screaming my name and telling me to look here or there. Lol.

Comments about film and most importantly Leo's performance from Kris Tapley of HitFlix/In Contention

Like reviews that JuJu posted above, he finds fault with film as whole, but he was very impressed with Leo's performance as J Edgar :)

At the heart of this vacillating, though, is a definitive opinion: Leonardo DiCaprio is exceptional in the title role, digging into an incredibly complex character, committing from frame one to the embodiment and maintaining that course without losing focus. It's at times a broad portrayal of a broad persona, but I thought the actor found ways to dial it down and make the internal machinations of the man count. And I think it could very well carry him to that elusive first Oscar win.

The entire review of J Edgar

I think the tweet below from EW film critic states it best, the opinions about the film are divergent, and for some it DOES work well

@BreznicanAnthony Breznican

Some divergent opinions out there on J. Edgar. Worked for me, a subtle story about a true-believer in repression.

Scott Feinberg of Hollywood Reporter give his take on Leo's Oscar nod chances

When they came back up, my gut feeling was that I had just seen a very good film -- but not one that is a slam-dunk for a best picture nomination or anything else (though I would be pretty surprised if, at the very least, DiCaprio doesn't make it into the best actor field and the film's showy makeup work isn't recognized).

That is not intended as a denigration of J. Edgar, which is visually beautiful, intellectually stimulating, and just plain better than the vast majority of films that get made these days -- all a testament to 81-year-old Eastwood, who just keeps going. Instead, it is simply a reflection of what happens to most films that are built around largely unsympathetic historical figures like Hoover (who was reportedly -- and is portrayed in the film as -- a dark, cold, power-hungry, mean-spirited, self-hating man).

Most of the time, these sorts of films provide meaty material for writers and actors, who tend to get nominated and sometimes even win for them, but they fail to inspire in voters the passion that is necessary for a best picture nomination, especially under the current voting system. For every film that serves as an exception to this "rule," like Patton (1970), there are dozens of others, like Nixon (1995) and The Last King of Scotland (2006), that support it.

Indeed, the respectful applause with which J. Edgar was met tonight was in stark contrast to the enthusiastic reception that has been afforded to some of this year's more upbeat contenders like The Artist and Midnight in Paris, with which it will have to compete in the best picture race. Are there many voters who will list J. Edgar as #1 on their preferential ballots? I have my doubts.

My guess is that DiCaprio will be the primary focus of their attention -- as he should be. He gives a performance of great nuance, portraying Hoover as a spry 24-year-old and a fading 77-year-old -- to say nothing of the 53 years in-between -- with equal aplomb. His physical transformation is remarkable (and not only because of the outstanding makeup work), as are the ways in which he conveys his character's mental hardening as he witnesses, learns, and fears more and more. (I couldn't help but think about Michael Shannon's character in Boardwalk Empire, another no-nonsense G-man who leads a secret life and hates himself for doing so.)

Will the 36-year-old three-time nominee finally get to make that trip to the podium? Maybe -- but look out for Brad Pitt (Moneyball), who has twice been nominated never before won; George Clooney (The Descendants), who has never before won in the lead category; and Jean Dujardin (The Artist), who has never even been in the discussion before but should not be underestimated. Talk about a race!

While I'm bound by studio rules to not talk about J. Edgar - I'll say this - the other 4 guys need not show up - Leo DiCaprio = Best Actor

Kat

Thanks for another video clip :)

Agree , that the lighting of cameras appears to be factor, as to whether Leo looked normally tanned or over tanned.

Overall he looked great (Y) (Y)

Yes..we haven't decided where we will go yet , we just know we have to stay clear of over zealous By Princess and Pami !!! :D

Leonado DiCaprio the new Best Actor frontrunner? – AWARDS ALLEY

By: Sean O'Connell

Hollywoodnews.com: Oscar trackers who finally caught up with Clint Eastwood’s “J. Edgar” at its AFI Fest world premiere Thursday evening have joined the discussion (I saw it Thursday morning and began breaking down Leonardo DiCaprio’s Best Actor chances), and they tend to agree that Eastwood’s lead actor has the best chance of muscling his way into the ongoing awards race. Some even believe he’s the new frontrunner.

DiCaprio occupies every scene of Eastwood’s “J. Edgar,” casting a long shadow over a dark biopic of a petty, powerful bureaucrat who lorded over Washington, D.C. and the nation for decades as the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

“It’s at times a broad portrayal of a broad persona, but I thought the actor found ways to dial it down and make the internal machinations of the man count. And I think it could very well carry him to that elusive first Oscar win,” Kris Tapley writes on InContention.

It very well could, though Tapley would probably admit that Best Actor is as stocked as any other this year, with similarly high-profile names such as Brad Pitt (“Moneyball”) and George Clooney (“The Descendants”) vying for a nomination and eventual trophy. If DiCaprio’s going to lean on the “yet-to-win” campaign, he might find Pitt riding that bandwagon, as well. And all three could be overshadowed by the charming Jean Dujadin, who’s silently powerful in “The Artist.”

But back to “J. Edgar” and its AFI Fest world premiere. Scott Feinberg covered the world premiere with an eye toward Oscar, as well, and agrees that DiCaprio should be the focus of Warner’s campaign.

“He gives a performance of great nuance, portraying Hoover as a spry 24-year-old and a fading 77-year-old — to say nothing of the 53 years in-between — with equal aplomb. His physical transformation is remarkable (and not only because of the outstanding makeup work), as are the ways in which he conveys his character’s mental hardening as he witnesses, learns, and fears more and more.”

So “J. Edgar” has entered the race. Next week, it enters the marketplace. And in time, we’ll see if DiCaprio, Armie Hammer, or Mr. Eastwood himself will find themselves on the campaign trail pushing their period biopic through the rigorous Oscar circus.

I love that tweet too :) And thanks Barbie!

And this from People:

"I hope I don't look anything like that! ... They were very meticulous in trying to create a very overweight version of myself but with [J. Edgar] Hoover's attributes. So I think it was a combination of both things."
