Little KOTFM update (even though the article is from July 1): no fall festivals

Set to skip the fall festivals: Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” David Fincher’s “The Killer”, David O. Russell’s “Amsterdam”, Guillermo Del Toro’s “Pinocchio”, Sam Mendes’ “Empire of Light”, Steven Spielberg’s “The Fablemans,” and (possibly) Damien Chazelle’s “Babylon”.

That is exciting news. I wish them all the good luck in the world with the film studio. 🙂

I have a slightly insensitive question. What happened with all the money everyone wanted so bad that they decided to leave one of the most horrible stories as a legacy? Is the oil money still a thing or is it a long-lost fortune?

Does anyone know?

Oklahoma oil is still very much a thing. We have oil drilling happening all over the state. Rich oil families still live here.

Akatosh

Just saw the same news

But let's wait and see if Variety & HR confirm this rumor

Kelly

As they note in the Deadline article  IFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF accurate the rollout would be similar to Once , and we know it was a player in award season with Pitt winning Oscar

Cannes-to-theater rollout would be reminiscent of Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which became a big box office hit and still factored in the Oscar race a half-year later, landing 10 noms including Best Picture, with Brad Pitt winning Best Supporting Actor. The makers of Killers of the Flower Moon have similar awards aspirations and the film will certainly have high awareness when it lands on Apple TV+, because of a proper P&A-fueled wide release.

Variety confirms the news

I'm not sure where the " be released in its INTENDED 2023" year  comment comes from ?????

This article seems to claim they were only considering releasing it this year , due to having to move Emancipation back

And how ODD that just last week we have blog stating that it had screened for Paramount/Apple , and they would soon be releasing  teaser & get poster, and this week the Variety article claims it  "wasn't ready "

:idk: :idk:

Plus this article claims releasing at a festival , but not for sure Cannes

Apple’s hughly anticipated “Killers of the Flower Moon” from Martin Scorsese won’t be coming this Oscar season. The Western drama, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jesse Plemons, will instead be released in its originally intended 2023 calendar year.

Written by Eric Roth and adapted from the best-selling novel “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI” by David Grann, the film had been originally slated for 2023 by Apple. Discussions between the filmmaker and the studio over bumping up the film’s release to 2022 took place after Will Smith’s actions at the Oscars earlier this year changed Apple’s release strategy for its Smith-starring slavery drama “Emancipation.”

Scorsese is known for his arduous editing process with his frequent collaborator Thelma Schoonmaker. Despite wrapping in September 2021, the $200 million “Killers of the Floower Moon” won’t be ready in time for this Oscar season. It’s now rumored to be eyeing a big 2023 festival debut at Cannes, Venice or another event.
