Thanks Barbie for the post and ox for the tweet!

I agree with Barbie regarding Joker...the portrayal was really different in which Joaquin wasn't the typical comic book villain. My heart, however, will always belong to Jack Nicholson's portrayal of the Joker (my childhood right there 😄). Heath Ledger did an excellent job as well.

Thanks everyone for sharing your opinion about the movies (especially Joker) :flower: I never seen this kind of physical reactions again by an audience like the ones Heath achieved with his insanse performance in "The Dark Knight" when I saw it in cinema... it was kinda mind-blowing. So I was wondering if Phoenix performance is capapble to reach the same level.

@BarbieErin I read about the Taxi Driver connection but believe it or not I never saw this movie, too :D I only saw Scorseses movies with Leo (and Hugo which I didn't like lol)

I'm so far behind when it comes to so called classics. Haven't seen many of them to be honest (like Godfather, Casablanca, Gone with the wind, Jaws, Terminator etc) 🙈 Sorry Leo

@Jade Bahryou haven’t seen The Godfather??? Jaws??? Casablanca?? We’re sitting down together and having an all day Scorsese style movie marathon to catch you up on all the classics 😁😄

Haha, @Jade Bahr. I'am with on that, Leo would hate me, lmao. I have not seen Gone with the Wind, Godfather, The Sound of Music, Casablanca, and many many more...

I have not seen many Scorseses movies too, don't worry, lol. I only have seen Cape Fear, Taxi Driver, the ones with Leo obviously, and Hugo. I tried to watch Silence, but was soo boring, sorry Marty, and I don't intend to watch Irishman, sorry again.

I love Margot's reaction to Leo in that interview, she's like: "Oh my God", she knows him well, hahaha.

Funny, same here. I didn't even finish it LOL

I didn't too.

I’m like Leo now 😀 are y’all serious? Ladies, gotta see the classics.  At least sit through them. I did hate Gone With the Wind though :p

@SexyLeo91 are they at least good? The ones I saw I wasn't very impress with (like Scarface, Out of Africa,The Great Gatsby 1974, The Big Lebowski, Philadelphia, Breakfast at Tiffanys, Love Story, ET, The Fearless Vampire Killers, Heat, The Untouchables, Indiana Jones, Star Wars...) I'm not saying they're all per se bad but I don't know... nothing I have to watch again.

Most of the time I didn't like the dialogs from the older movies (they're always so stiff and weird), same for the way women are portrayed (mostly). A couple of weeks ago I watched This Property Is Condemned from 1966 with Robert Redford and Natalie Wood and it was horrible. All horny old men in this movie were constantly grabbing her (without her permission). Even her stepfather was only with her mother to bang her. I know it was a different time but eeeew, not fun to watch at all :oh_no:

@Jade Bahr I love ET 😁😁. It was the first film I saw on VHS, and as a little kid, I wanted my own ET, LOL. I guess for me, it's more nostalgia than anything else. I love The Big Lebowski😀

Indiana Jones, hmm, I haven't seen the third part since I was ten but I loved it. You're right about some of the plots and dialogue. Watching some of it now can make a person go 'ugh, they really said or did that?'

Here are some of the films that I do like: Mean Streets, The Big Sleep, Godfather, Taxi Driver, the Bicycle Thief, The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, Raisin in the Sun, Jaws, ET 😁, Goodfellas, Reservoir Dogs, Raging Bull, etc, most of Chaplin films, Easy Rider (just watch the scenes with Jack Nicholson. Skip the rest of it, lol) and Wizard of Oz.

I will say this. Some of those films you mentioned are very dated. My mother and older siblings loved them, especially Scarface. The first time I saw Scarface (that wasn't on network television, but video), I was 17 and thought it was awesome. Recently, though, I do unintentionally laugh at some of the dialogue. I still like it though.

2001: A Space Odyssey sucked, and it's touted as this supposed amazing film.  The original Scarface with Paul Muni, ugh, well, it was a different time, so I guess it was daring and awesome for that day, but it was yet again, unintentionally funny to me. But I did get a chance to finally watch that version.

Star Wars sucks (sorry to all the Star Wars fans).

Gone with the Wind is a classic, but I'm very uncomfortable with it because of how Black people are portrayed, and the dialogue, I'll be on a soapbox, lol. A lot of those older films make me feel that way for that particular reason.

Now, I've been hearing about Buster Keaton, so one Saturday, I watched College, his classic, not realizing there was a blackface scene (see, the channel that shows these older films restore everything that was removed years ago). Well, he did blackface (with the stereotypical shuffling and everything) and I shut it off . I couldn't finish it.

The 1974 Gatsby sucked (mainly due to Mia Farrow as Daisy, sorry ) and The Property Condemned was horrible :no2:. A lot of those mid-60s films are terrible.

I will put them on my watch list. Maybe someday :D Though I always wanted to see Godfather (but it's so fuck!ng long and it's not only 1 but 3 movies, for christ sake), Jaws and Taxi Driver. Same for Shining,  As Good as It Gets, Leon and The Way We Were. Still worried I will hate the last one (again) though it's Barbara Streisand so I put some hope into it.

What is a blackface scene? A white actor put some mud on his face to pretending he's black (in the worst way)?

Though Leo loved the movie... but damn, it's sooooo long too, I don't have the time... and it looks just so bad at least to me :D All those old dudes becoming technical younger. I'm still not convinced with that concept.

I watched The Two Popes the other night, btw. Loved it

The answer to the second question is yes, that's exactly what it is, and it was pretty common to do back in the day. It was considered schtick and even in the vaudeville days, a couple of black comedians did blackface as well.

Also, check out some Hitchcock when you get a chance, and many of it is very dated, but still really good.

Those nearly 3 hours will pass quickly in watching The Godfather 😉

I think the reason why Gone with the Wind stands the test of time is because cinematically, it is a beautiful film, and it involves a passionate (for their time, lol) love story gone wrong against the backdrop of war. There are many moments that I do enjoy that film, but the stereotypes, lol, hell no. Can't do it.

The problem is by the time I got to watch these older films, a lot of the more offensive material were cut out at that point; well, now with restoration being a thing, it's all back in, and some of the time, I find myself going 'what the f*** was that?'

If you love a good love story, you'll like The Way We Were. Plus, it's pretty realistic, too.

The Shining is an acquired taste. If you get a chance to see and like it, let me know because I still can't get into that one 😄

LOL I gotta say this about the Irishman. When I saw it in the theater, I didn't notice the de-aging thing. On Netflix though, it's way more obvious 😊, and I tried my damndest not to notice it. Besides that, I liked it. Maybe because I was always strangely fascinated with Jimmy Hoffa and how he went missing.

Thanks ox for the pics! Leo looks so handsome ( I want to see his hair 😁)
