Hollywood Reporter article about difficult Revenant film shoot thus far

What caught my eye was the fact that originally Leo's December break in filming was supposed to be just for 2 weeks , but do the the need to

replace some production people it turned into a 6 week break

Inarritu remembers venting frustration over a wasted morning but says Skotchdopole was not barred from the set but rather redeployed to a trailer to wind down the production in Canada. Still, Inarritu acknowledges that problems had become so evident that a planned two-week hiatus in December was extended into a six-week break, prompting issues with actor schedules. In January, Tom Hardy was forced to drop out of Warner Bros.' Suicide Squad to accommodate the protracted shoot. During the break, the director asked veteran producer Mary Parent to help get the project on track. Ultimately, she took over on-set duties; Skotchdopole, who did not respond to requests for comment, has moved on.

thank you for the updates ; Leo should wear gray more often its suits him perfectly !!!

I like this suit on him :D Its a little more grey than black, its a nice switch up from the constant black suits. So far not many pics hmm? No red carpet pics? Not seeing too many pics of any other of the attendees either. Wonder how much money was raised?

Also off topic, but I literally LOVE Kelly's dress

Wonder if Leo will go back to the States, now that this Gala is over, or if he'll make an extended vacation in Europe. Would be nice if he went straight to Ushuaia, to get this shoot over with.

It looks like Elton John was the suprise performer  EDIT So was John Legend!

Great that raised so much money.

Article about Leo's gala ; states again that the event raised $40 million dollars to support great causes

Leonardo DiCaprio raised a staggering $40 million at his annual fundraising gala in Saint Tropez.

The Hollywood A-lister, whose foundation (LDF) is dedicated to preserving and saving the environment, was joined by a host of stars including Orlando Bloom, Elton John, Goldie Hawn and Naomi Campbell on Wednesday night.

DiCaprio, who hosted the inaugural fundraising event last year, was on hand to welcome the musicians, actors and models to Domaine Bertaud Belieu with a speech about the organisation.

He said: "Tonight’s event is about supporting LDFs efforts to protect key species like the tiger, rhino, shark, and mountain gorilla by working with governments to conserve the jungles, coral reefs and forests they call home.

Kat

Tks for gala pix and instagram about amount raised :)

Last year the gala raise $25 million , so this year they almost doubled that amount , how great !!!

Barbie

Tks for article when Leo might arrive in Ushuaia :)

It would seem with the travel time to fly there , difference in time zones , and , most of all, preparation time needed for Leo to mentally/emotionally

get into his Hugh Glass mindset , that he would be heading to Ushuaia soon

Hoping all goes well with the final film sequences, and soon The Revenant will be wrapped (Y)

^Gah do I love him in grey suits :p

More pics from Getty at the Gala. I love his big smile in these  And I guess no Tom Hardy?

Safety concerns raised on set of Leonardo DiCaprio's The Revenant, says local union head

The head of the local union representing film workers that endured the harsh conditions of Leonardo DiCaprio’s epic Alberta-shot western The Revenant confirmed there were safety concerns and high turnover on set after a Hollywood Reporter article released Wednesday quoted anonymous sources describing the shoot as a “living hell.”

Damian Petti, president of IATSE 212, also confirmed that 15 to 20 members of his union were either fired or quit during the gruelling production.

The Hollywood Reporter article featured an interview with Oscar-winning director Alejandro G. Inarritu, who said he wanted to set the record straight about the production.

Petti took exception to Inarritu’s comment in the article comparing the crew members who left the production as out-of-tune violins in an orchestra.

“I find that offensive,” says Petti. “These are pretty elite crew. These are people who have done some of these amazing shows at Fortress Mountain. The crew have high skills as far as working in extreme conditions.”

The article also reports that a 22-year-old background actor may have been put at risk after a scene required him to be dragged naked along the ground. Inarritu rejected this, and insisted on-set safety was a priority and that there were no serious injuries on set.

Petti could not comment on that particular incident, but said he did visit the set on three occasions to discuss safety concerns, including crew members who worked in freezing water for a long period of time.

“I will say that there were safety issues and this was an extremely elite crew that was very well-prepared, dealing in a very difficult situation,” Petti says.

Drumheller, Kananaskis Country, Dead Man’s Flats, Morley and areas near Canmore were all used for the lengthy shoot, which began in late September and ran into May. The film is apparently still not finished, although the production will definitely not be coming back to Alberta. Iñárritu will apparently shoot a frozen-river scene on the southern tip of South America.

Inarritu, who won an Oscar last year for the dark comedy Birdman, used only natural light for the production and long shots, contributing to the difficulty of the shoot.
