    The 2012 award season is underway, and so far, there are a few sweet surprises and shocking snubs in the latest round of nominations. Ryan Gosling is getting recognition, but his Ides of March costar George Clooney was left off the Spirit Awards list.

    lol :laugh: Have to admit this Clooney snub made me feel just a tad bit better after hearing the dissapointing news that Brad won that NY award. Though I have yet to fully recover from that dissapointment <_<

    As to Rourke/Oscar : To me Rourke's nod was due half to his performance and half to his comeback story that played well in the media.

    Also Rourke , for me personally, falls into same category of Jamie Foxx and Adrien Brody. What noteworthy /award worthy performances have any of them done since their nominations/wins ???

    Whereas Leo since Aviator /2004 has delivered strong performances in TD, BD, RR, SI , Inception, Edgar.

    Durban is not over, the conference last to Dec. 9th

    So, yes, I think we can say that the articles that stated that Leo would arrive Nov 29th were wrong, but , he might yet show .

    George Clooney- “The Descendants”

    FOR HIM: Many agree, it’s the best performance of his career. With a Supporting statue on his resume, a Leading one is a welcomed inclusion. Also has The Ides of March which helps. AGAINST HIM: Since he already has an Oscar, many may want to spread the wealth.

    Brad Pitt- “Moneyball”

    FOR HIM: Seems to finally have realized what he can do given the write source material. Can Pitt finally score himself Gold? AGAINST HIM: Split votes with The Tree of Life.

    Jean Dujardin- “The Artist”

    FOR HIM: Gives one the most endearing and charismatic performances. If voters are going for the film, it’s nearly impossible not to go for him as well. AGAINST HIM: Has many big names and stars beside him. He’ll need some big awards (Globes, NYFCC, LAFCA) to be lock it in

    Gary Oldman-“Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy”

    FOR HIM: Been snubbed countless times. Seems like the year he finally get his due? About time. AGAINST HIM:He always seems like he can make it and then loses buzz. The film’s buzz is dead.

    Leonardo DiCaprio- “J. Edgar”

    FOR HIM: Despite mediocre reviews for the film, many say he gives his best work yet. Like Invictus where the film was shunned and they went for the leading man, this is possible. AGAINST HIM: Those reviews are going to put a big damper on his chances. They may just wait for “Gatsby.”

    Michael Fassbender- “Shame”

    FOR HIM: Has three great performances in 2011. Shame is his most raw and high profile work. Can he get passed the naked mentions? AGAINST HIM: For him to make it, he needs Leo to drop out of conversation completely. He also needs the Globe.

    If you can notice, Leo is the only one who has no major obstacles to winning. Bad movie? Please, there have been thousands of winners in the leading category whose films have not been so well received by the critics

    Jeff Bridges: Crazy heart, Kate winslet: The Reader, Sean Penn: Milk, Nicole Kidman: The Hours,...

    So, because it's about time, because he deserves and because I said so... He will WIN :clap:
