January 11, 201015 yr Ah ya, that would've been nice, maybe if rackers didn't miss that one field goalBut in the end, i don't think anyone can complain the game wasn't that good
January 11, 201015 yr ^ I can imagine some Packers fans are complaining. But they shouldn't because w/ Rogers, all his weapons, and a great defense that's only going to get better, they're looking like the football dynasty of the next decade.
January 11, 201015 yr Mind you, how much longer can Woodson and Driver go?Those are two big questions, and two hard guys to replace. Especially Woodson, GB has a lot of good young receivers/ tight ends, but can the same be said at cornerback?
January 12, 201015 yr ^ A good draft or two should solve much of that problem. I don't think the team has a lot of pressing needs at the moment, so maybe they can afford to trade a pick or two to move up in the first round and get the most surefire CB they can to groom. That said, Woodson just won the defensive MVP, so he must have a lot left in the tank. In other news... I love how the Ravens beat the Pats and it's like every member of the sports media is now saying their dynasty is over. I think it's an overreaction, but I certainly do like hearing it though!
January 13, 201015 yr Because the organization has a suposed, "no superstar" philosophy, I think some have underestimated the collective impact of the peole they've lost over the years. And even though the most commerial or well known players are offensive players, that doesn't change the fact that Bilicick is a DEFENSIVE coach. They've lost a lot of great defensive players (for various reasons, most of which unwillingness to pay up). Belicick knows how to work a defense, but the coaching staff as a whole isn't what it once was, though that part is inevitable of course because almost everyone wants to move up...and "worked with Belicick" looks great on your resume . Charlie Weis may suck as a head coach, but his impact as their defensive coordinator during the "glory days" was huge. Look at the D of the SuperBowl repeat for example... 2003 (Super Bowl Champs) 14-2 12th in offense :| 1st in defense :| 2004 (Super Bowl Champs) 14-2 4th in offense 2nd in defense This defeat is what they needed as a wakeup call I think. If that's what they take it as, I think a year of healing and smart offseason moves may be all they need to be contenders again .
January 13, 201015 yr Offensive wins the regular season, Defense wins Championships. The Giants did it over the Pats a few years back. And thanks to some key plays in last year's superbowl, the Steelers won
January 16, 201015 yr Here's how I WANT it to turn out. I WANT the Saints to win but if they don't, I want the Chargers and I think that is a more likely scenario, actually. But, I've loved the Saints forever! Just don't let it be the Cowboys!
January 18, 201015 yr I can't tell if I'm more embarrassed for the Ravens or Chargers right now. No, wait, definitely more embarrassed for the Ravens.
January 18, 201015 yr Go Jets! You could just feel the whole first half that it was more of a Jets game. They pulled it out. Seems Greene is the feature back now. Jones was barely in there. My pick for Superbowl winner is Vikings though. Favre can finish on top. That's if he retires. and stays retired
January 18, 201015 yr J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets :hell yea!: ! The running game came up big and Revis and the D took care of business. Family and friends laughed at me, but now I've got bragging rights . Here's how I WANT it to turn out. I WANT the Saints to win but if they don't, I want the Chargers and I think that is a more likely scenario, actually. But, I've loved the Saints forever! Just don't let it be the Cowboys! Well, at least the Saints are going marching in to the NFC Championship . I'm so happy for the city as well as thick and thin fans in general .
January 18, 201015 yr Jets Colts could be interesting. Saints Vikings i thnk interests me a bit more though. It'll come down to a Favre Brees shoot out I bet. The chance for a Vikings Jets matchup really would be intersting. But a Manning Brees shootout too Oh the possibilities
January 18, 201015 yr I hope the Saints beat the Vikings because #1, Drew Brees seems like a nice guy and was robbed of the MVP and #2, Brett Favre deserves to lose for continually being an off-season attention whore.
January 19, 201015 yr Drew Brees seems like a nice guy and was robbed of the MVP He's a nice guy and I like him . But robbed? Peyton won 1 more game (14), Brees threw one more touchdown (34). With turnovers, Peyton had 16 interceptions and 0 lost fumbles With turnovers, Brees had 11 interceptions and 6 lost fumbles But overall, Peyton is a higher % of his team's success than any other quarterback in the league. In the cast of Brees, the Saint's running backs and defense (and realistically coach and offensive line too) overall had much more impact than the Colts. The Saint's runningbacks helped more than the Colt's Saint's 6th vs. 32nd Colts The Saint's defense did more for the Saint's offense than the Colt's defense They beat the colts in sacks They beat the Colts in interceptions (3rd in the league) They beat the Colts in interceptions for touchdowns (1st in the league) They beat the Colts in interception yards (1st in the league) They beat the colts in points by defense (4th in the league) They beat the Colts in forced fumbles They beat the Colts in defensive recovered fumbles (5th vs. 25th) They beat the Colts in defensive fumbles for touchdowns (1st in the league) Special Teams Even beat the Colt's in return yard averages (5th vs. 18th) which helps field position Coaching I'd definitely take Sean Payton who is an offensive genius. Peyton Manning is basically the offensive coordinator for the Colts. No team in the NFL relies on their quarterback more than the Colts.
January 19, 201015 yr Wow. thanks for the stats joe But you are right. Manning is the heart and soul of the Colts, he drives the team to how they do every season. He always seems to put up elite numbers the colts are always one of the top teams in the NFL, and Manning can seem to lead his team back from any situation.
January 19, 201015 yr Joe, you're an awesome guy, but your argument is pretty ridiculous. Truly great QB play elevates the entire team. Playing with a lead given by the offense allows a defense to be more aggressive and effective; a great QB forces a defense to stretch itself, therefore allowing a more prolific running game. If the Colts' defense and running game couldn't be as prolific as the Saints', then clearly Manning's play as a QB was less beneficial to his team than Brees' (who is the definition of being a team's heart and soul). And if you want to go by numbers (which to me is really a cop-out to explain Manning winning via popularity), Philip Rivers had the statistically better season and is absolutely no less important to his team - 11 straight final regular season wins? That's an extraordinary feat after being written off with a 2-3 start. And it wouldn't have been even a remote possibility without Rivers. And this is to say nothing about Chris Johnson. The guy had a historic season, but he and Brees lose to Manning because Manning had a pretty good season (only his 4th-best statistically). It's obvious at this point that as long as the NFL continues it's Peyton love-fest, what anyone else does is irrelevant in MVP voting.
January 19, 201015 yr I knew you'd say that . Ironically I feel the same about you. You're a great guy, but your argument is ridiculous largely because of your predetermined biases (namesly that you don't like the Colts because of that midnight 18-wheeler ) 1. My argument isn't based on numbers. Numbers can mean anything independent of events. My argument is based on events and I used numbers to represent those events. The argument being they are a genuinely more talented team than the Colts independent of quarterbacks. Take away the starting quarterbacks and the Colts definitely loose to the Saints or Chargers. 2. Your own argument kindof contradicts itself. You say a good quarterback is supposed to elevate the play of the team. Well, they won the most games and were undefeated from the start of the season until the time their coach sat them down to rest for the playoffs. In what way did Peyton hold his cast back from their full potential? The talent of the Colts is already maximized, they're simply less talented. The problem is you are attributing genuine differences in talent to the merit of the quarterback in this case. And Darren Sharper has been great at picking off passes for his entire career BTW... 3. You really think the difference between 6th running game and 32nd is the difference between Brees and Manning? No chance. Its easier to run for the Saints because their running backs are genuinely much more athletic and the offensive line is much better as well (at both run blocking and pass protection as well). Reggie Bush isn't even the premier back for the Saints and runs circles around any Colts running back. The Saints and Chargers have overall more talented receivers, defenses, running backs, offensive lines and better coaches as well. Darren Sproles runs circles around any Colt's back as well. The worse your running game is, the more the defense plays the pass and as a result, defenses play the pass even more against the Colts. 4. And there is absolutely NO comparisson of the Charger's overall team to the Colts. Take both quarterbacks away and the Chargers and their much better offensive line, more athletic players, better running backs and shooting guard sized receivers, offensive guru head coach (like the Saint's Sean Payton) would absolutely win. Patriots too actually.
January 19, 201015 yr Peyton Manning realistically should win MVP every season. The only reason he doesn't is so they can spread it around.
