Most of the time if someone is taller than all the other kids before puberty that that kid will be tall.
Not really at all, but it did use the split the heroes up so they can grow and go through their own trials and then come back together at the end or next movie.
The Force Awakens was basically a reboot sequel, but the other stuff no. George Lucas didn't like TFA. Terminator has been rebooted 3 times with the same characters.
