Not really surprising considering the waaaaaaaay too high budget. Report: ‘Gladiator II’ Won’t Break Even Puck’s Scott Mendelson believes, when all is said and done, that Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II,” which had a $55M opening weekend, will end up grossing less than $450M worldwide. Mendelson believes the film will have a very hard time to break even. Having approved a budget of $250M, Paramount surely expects a more robust theatrical performance in the days ahead, but word of mouth hasn’t been that strong on the film. It’s come to the point where it wouldn’t surprise anyone if Scott’s “Gladiator III” gets quietly shelved. It’s no secret that “Gladiator II” was an expensive production, and despite Scott reiterating that he was actually under budget when shooting wrapped, that $250M budget — confirmed by Deadline, Variety and THR — does stick out like a sore thumb. The film will likely not see big profits just from theatrical earnings, and will have to instead rely on rental and streaming to make its money back. Scott recently mentioned having, so far, written twelve pages for “Gladiator III,” but who actually wants to see that movie? This won’t sadden me one bit, and maybe then Scott will finally get to make the western that he’s been hinting at for a few years now, titled “Freewalkers.”
  6. Huh? James Gunn Denies ‘The Batman' Sequel Has Been Canceled What exactly is going on with Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” sequel? There’s been so many delays on this one that some are starting to wonder if there might be friction between Reeves and DCU boss James Gunn. In recent weeks, there’s even been talk of the possible cancellation of Reeves’ sequel, so much so that DC Studios chief James Gunn has now had to tackle the rumors. Yesterday, Gunn responded to the rumors on Threads, saying: If it was canceled it would be canceled. Who has time for charades? I’ve been one of Matt’s biggest cheerleaders for years – since Cloverfield and the Apes’ movies. We are eagerly awaiting his script. Reeves has still not submitted the script to Gunn and Warner Bros. It doesn’t help that Gunn is working on his own Batman movie (“The Brave and the Bold”) which currently has Andy Muschietti attached to direct. A recent blurb from THR cast further doubt on “The Batman: Part II,” which originally set up a mid-2025 production start. Here’s what was implied … Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson were hoping to return to ‘The Batman: Part II’ and there was hope that it could shoot sometime next year. Those hopes remain in place but nothing is close to being planned. Just a few days ago, when questioned about the script, and Reeves’ claim that it was nearing completion, Gunn replied, “I think that report was well-intentioned but it was mistaken. We are very much looking forward to it.” For now, “The Batman: Part II” is still on track for an October 2026 release. The film was originally supposed to shoot in late 2023, then 2024, and now it’s “sometime in 2025.”
  7. Pretty sure he made that comment before the movie bombed but yeah now with those low numbers no one would finance a 3rd installment I agree.

  12. Rodrigo Prieto Says Scorsese's ‘Sinatra' Was “Supposed to Be Filming Now" What a downer to think about how Martin Scorsese was very close to having a film come out next year, but alas, that clearly hasn’t materialized as production on his long gestating “Sinatra” was suddenly postponed in the summer. Cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, who shot Scorsese’s “Silence” and “Killers of the Flower Moon,” is telling The Film Stage that his schedule is currently empty because he had set aside dates to shoot “Sinatra” this month. We were supposed to be filming now; that’s why I couldn’t do other films. [Laughs] So anyway: I’m in the waiting process and hopeful that everything will come together […] I don’t know if I’m supposed to say this, but I think it was published and that was… It’s come to the point where Prieto might have to prep for a whole other Scorsese project as “Sinatra” seems to be a major question mark at the moment: It’s common that things push, so I thought “it’s going to push,” but now I don’t know even what it is that we’re doing next. I don’t know, and I prefer not to ask. It’s on a need-to-know basis, but I do know that he wants me to do it. Unless the standstill on “Sinatra” suddenly lifts, and if you’re a betting man, put down all of your chips on “Home” being Scorsese’s next one. As I had previously reported, his “Life of Jesus” script is not ready at the moment. “Sinatra” was supposed to star Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. There’s been no word yet as to why it was suddenly delayed at the last minute. Something tells me it might have to do with the Sinatra estate’s disapproval about the entire project. For over a decade the Sinatra family has attempted to block Scorsese from making the biopic about Frank, and recent comments by Nancy Sinatra made it sound like they were still not interested. I’m not sure if Scorsese will somehow manage to convince them, but I remain skeptical.
