  20. More Clues Surface About Paul Thomas Anderson's ‘The Battle of Baktan Cross' Sean Penn, who has a supporting role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Battle of Baktan Cross,” donated a coin to the cast and crew of the film before shooting wrapped —both sides can be seen below (via r/paulthomasanderson). As you can see, Penn’s character's name is most likely Col. Steven J. Lockjaw. He’s part of an ensemble cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, and Regina Hall, Alana Haim, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, and Benicio del Toro. One of the sides has “A Paul Thomas Anderson Motion Picture & Ballroom Extravaganza” stamped on it. The second coin has “Presented by Col. Steven J. Lockjaw,” “MKU,” and “Wet n’ Stinky Fuck Devil’s Brigade.” “MKU” seemingly stands for MANKIND UNITED RIO DUARTE which might or might not be connected to a dissolved 1930s California-based secret cult. While specific plot details are currently being kept under wraps, ‘Baktan Cross’ is set in a contemporary setting and is being described as Anderson's “most commercial” film to date. Penn’s behind-the-scenes memento is sure to get people theorizing further about the film’s plot, which is rumored to be PTA’s modern-day take on Thomas Pynchon’s “Vineland.” The Wall Street Journal recently reported that PTA’s latest has a budget of $140M. Original reporting had it costing anywhere between $100-$125 million. Jeff Sneider claims it might actually be $175M. The film is due in theaters on August 8, 2025.
  21. Martin Scorsese Says ‘Home' Could Likely Be His Next Film A few months ago, I reported that Martin Scorsese’s “The Life of Jesus” and “Sinatra” had been delayed. A few days later, Variety’s Clayton Davis added that both films were supposed to be shot this year but have now been postponed indefinitely. Some have speculated that ‘Sinatra’ was nixed due to the late singer’s family estate not giving the greenlight for Scorsese to shoot the biopic. Meanwhile, I heard that “The Life of Jesus” kept having script revisions, but will eventually get shot in the near future, with Andrew Garfield attached to star. I’ve been saying this for a few months now, but I believe that Scorsese’s next feature will not be either of those, but rather his adaptation of Marilynne Robinson’s “Home.” He’s now hinting further at that direction in an interview with AP. [“Life of Jesus”] is an option but I’m still working on it. There’s a very strong possibility of me doing a film version of Marilynne Robinson’s “Home,” and that’s a scheduling issue. Scorsese has been working on “Home” for around two years now. Todd Field and Kent Jones are said to be working on Robinson’s other two novels in the trilogy. Here’s the synopsis: The Reverend Boughton’s hell-raising son, Jack, has come home after twenty years away. Artful and devious in his youth, now an alcoholic carrying two decades worth of secrets, he is perpetually at odds with his traditionalist father, though he remains his most beloved child. As Jack tries to make peace with his father, he begins to forge an intense bond with his sister Glory, herself returning home with a broken heart and turbulent past. Scorsese goes on to state that he’d like to make a documentary about the stories from “my mother and father from the past, and how they grew up. Stories about immigrants which tied into my trip to Sicily”. The iconic filmmaker does admit that “there’s been a long period after “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which was shot in 2021, and that he’s not getting any younger: Even though I don’t like getting up early, I’d like to shoot a movie right now. Time is going. I’ll be 82. Gotta go […] You’re guided by: Is it worth doing at this late stage in your life? Can you make it through? Is it worth your time? Because now, the most valuable thing aside from people I love, my family, is time. That’s all there is. Scorsese is getting restless. He wants to be on a movie set again. Don’t be surprised if he shoots “Home” next year. ‘
  22. Margot revealing Kate visited Leo on TWOWS set Margot Robbie Listened to ‘Titanic’ Music to Cry on ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ Set — Then Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio Walked By: ‘It Was Very Surreal’ How does Margot Robbie turn on the waterworks when preparing for a big scene? “I can even just hear the theme music of ‘Titanic,’ and I’ll be bawling,” Robbie said in a yet-to-be-released episode of the “Talking Pictures: A Movie Memories Podcast,” premiering Nov. 26. “And so that’s what I do on set if I need to cry in a scene.” On one particular occasion, her method led to a “surreal” experience. “On ‘Wolf of Wall Street,’ there was the big, crazy scene after I ask for a divorce and stuff. And Kate Winslet came to visit set, to visit Leo [DiCaprio] that day,” Robbie said. “I was in the room next to them, listening to the ‘Titanic’ soundtrack trying to stay in sad, teary mode. And then I saw Kate Winslet and Leo walk past. It was very surreal.” DiCaprio and Winslet co-starred in James Cameron’s 1997 romantic epic, which went on to win 11 Oscars, including for best picture, best director and best original song for the theme “My Heart Will Go On,” as performed by Celine Dion.
