The other members are Max Mosley, Jean Todt, Mercedes' Norbert Haug and national sporting associations representative Nick Craw. The fun will be spent over the next five years on safety programmes for drivers, officials and venues.
  2. Di Stefano: Raúl's Spanish Absence Good For Madrid Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano believes that the club are benefiting from Raúl's continued omission from the Spanish national squad as the striker is in better shape to compete on a week-to-week basis in La Liga. Raúl is currently enjoying his best goal-scoring season since 2002/03 and Madrid's honorary president Di Stefano believes that this is because he has been able to concentrate his mind and body on playing solely for Los Blancos "With Raúl we should not complain about his omission, because if he is scoring goals for us, we will win the matches and that is what we want," he told a press conference earlier on Thursday. Di Stefano feels that with a rejuvenated Raúl on board, Madrid should be able to maintain their four point advantage over second placed Barcelona in order to take a second successive league title. "It is all very close, and it is difficult in the Spanish league to make up an eight point deficit like we saw last year... Madrid maintains a four point lead and this is a good advantage at the moment," he affirmed. "We lost two consecutive games, but if the players put up a good fight, we should be able to stay in first place." Possible Challengers Barcelona and Villarreal are both still in with a chance of overtaking Madrid in the remaining games of the campaign and although Di Stefano had some kind words for the Yellow Submarine, he suggested that Madrid take more pride from beating city neighbours Atlético than they do in defeating Barça. "[Villarreal] have good players and a great trainer. The president is a good friend of mind and a great person. First I wish for Real Madrid to win but I am also in support of Villarreal. "Barcelona is and has been always a great club and is the great enemy for us to beat according to the press, although for us the duel is with Atlético Madrid because of the rivalry in the city," he concluded.

Pato Overjoyed With Brazil Debut Brazilian teenage sensation Alexandre Pato admitted to being overcome by emotion following his dream debut for the Selecao last night. The 18-year-old AC Milan hot-shot showed some sublime touches during his 30 minutes against Sweden, and capped a fine performance by snatching the goal that separated Brazil and Sweden. "My parents called crying," Pato said. "I was moved too, because everything I've been achieving in life I owe it to them, to the education they gave me, to the support they gave me in the most difficult moments. "I'm glad I'm being able to give back everything they have done to me. There's nothing better in life than to be able to do this for your parents." The Brazilian media broke out the superlatives following Pato's dream debut, comparing him to former Brazilian greats Pele, Zico and Rivelino.

Ronaldo's recovery ahead of schedule Ronaldo's recovery from his horrific injury is ahead of schedule, and he is already walking without the aid of crutches. Many people believed that the career of "El Fenomeno" was over when he severed a tendon in his knee, playing against Livorno on Feb. 13. However, the 31-year-old is recovering ahead of schedule from his subsequent operation, and his physiotherapy is going so well that he is already walking without crutches. "I am really happy with how things are going and because I don't feel any pain now," Ronaldo told journalists. Ronaldo's physiotherapist Bruno Mazziotti is also delighted with the progress that his patient is making. "We are working slowly but surely to get the best results possible. Ronaldo is increasing in confidence and taking a more independent approach," Mazziotti revealed. "In the coming weeks we will start to work with weights." Ronnie will meet Gerard Saillant, who oversaw his operation in Paris, on April 3, while the striker is also set to visit the Milan training ground next week.
