  3. The Russians achieved a penetration in the Adivvka front as a segment of the frontline collapsed, the salient is likely to expand significantly if Ukraine fails to successfully counterattack the penetration. There is also a slow grind in the cities south of Adivvka forward. They are also serious in the Chasiv Yar direction- lots of airstrikes in the city daily. Overall both sides agree that the Russian air force uses about 200 guided bombs daily to strike ground targets throughout Ukraine, mostly of the 500KG class with some use of 1500KG guided bombs. The Russians also re-started production of the 3000 KG class bombs. Another major development is how Russia started production of the Soviet T-80 BVM including a new factory line that produces 1500 HP engines for the Tank. The new Soviet T-80 BVM has an anti-drone cage on top of it. However it is unlikely to be a game-changer if it does not have an effective system to jam drones. It would just save Russian field repair shops the trouble of installing improvised protection. Among the 4 great tank production complexes of the Soviet Union, 1 is fully operational and the second is steadily activating more and more. Given the lack of new production the most ATACMS the US will send to Ukraine is in the couple hundreds- as they are quiet about the real numbers it could be as low as in the dozens. Polish/Ukrainian forces claim that the new Russian "Army Group North" in reserve north of Sumy-Kharkiv is 100,000-50,000 men and are composed of trained attack forces with new equipment. They recently de-mined the approaches to Kharkiv. There is some kind of agitation going on from the Russians as they blew up a TV tower in Kharkiv, destroyed a power plant and did missile/drone strikes on the energy & communications system. They appear to be trying to reduce the population of Kharkiv, getting them to evacuate. If these manpower claims are true this force is around the same manpower size as the original force that invaded from the North in 2022.
  4. Among the aid package is more ATACMS, kind of a replacement for the now expended Ukrainian Soviet Tochka-U. These missiles are no longer in production and the production order for them was removed from the bill. There's also been a big escalation in anti-China rhetoric, sanctions, and politics- they are now being accused of being behind Russian economic growth and the war machine due to how they replaced European trade with China and the rest of the world.

  7. I think overall they did skimp on the battle scenes (throughout the series but surprisingly in the final episode) to stay within budget. I definitely would have liked to see more closure with Ishido- IMHO I wonder how Japanese, Chinese, and Korean people think of this show. They watch huge numbers of similar type of dramas, this one was written and produced for a western audience. I know from the Japanese POV that they think that samurai stereotypes (fanatic loyalty, honor, Zen, suicide etc.) are largely exaggerated even in though own media. I like the inclusion of so many Zen Death Poems. It is consistent with a book on Zen Death poetry that I read a while back. Most of these poems were written at the end of life and not before suicide or execution though. A lot of them are brilliant, however the most common 'theme' among Zen Death Poems is how the person basically says that 'death is nothing', merely the next phase after life. There are so many seppeku in the show/story that the later ones has less impact for me. I wonder how a Japanese person would react to this, as this story is written by a Western man. With Mariko she should not be thought of through the 'Western' conception of morality even though she likes christianity

FO 76 seems to have gone the way of Cyber-punk- a lot of work has been done to improve it.

It is a billion-dollar empire and the NFL is worth billions, both give each other good publicity. I am most impressed by the whole Taylor Swift empire and how their business/marketing team managed everything. She is a great performer, is beautiful and has a good presence on stage. I don't think she writes all her music and I think the poetry/music is managed by her and her team. They obviously have a very good understanding of what their demographics want. I tried to find a serious biography on her and her career but so far there isn't any which means that we will not know a more complete tale until years from now. The music itself is mainly poetry about (negative) experiences that is instantly relatable to unmarried women age approx. 15-35, which is her target audience. The lyrics are the key, not so much the (mostly not great) quality of the music itself. It says quite a lot about the issues that women have today. A lot of her sad poetry is basically samsara- being lost in suffering while only reaching the half-way goal of understanding and moving forward/maturity, or not moving forward at all. Saṃsāra - Wikipedia "cycle of aimless drifting, wandering or mundane existence" I wonder what will happen to Taylor's strategy as she gets older, say 40 and 50 years old? The content must change by then to a higher form- I hope it does.

  17. The ending for Shogun came out. Overall, it is good but a bit underwhelming as the showrunners ran out of money and had to truncate the ending (squeeze it all in one episode, omit things, and there is no final battle). The full ending is in the books and a bit from history.
