Saw it on Monday morning and for the rest of the day, I was like a child giddy on lemonade. Completely sold on it and can't wait for the next one. If there's one thing the Lucas prequels proved beyond all doubt, it's that making a good Star Wars movie isn’t so much about a clever story or huge spectacle. The really hard thing to pull off is creating a feeling and a spirit, and I thought Abrams delivered that sense of fun and adventure in spades. All the newbies were excellent (I was particularly impressed by Boyega as Finn) despite only being at the beginning of their character arcs, and the oldies had more than just glorified cameos. I desperately wanted more Captain Phasma though, with any luck that comes later. I understand the criticisms about the movie perhaps not marking its own territory quite enough and I don't necessarily disagree, but I think Abrams has taken the franchise back to its roots as a way of looking forward. It's a homecoming of sorts, a refresh from the direction of the prequels and a launching point for where the trilogy will go in the future. Plus, it provided some changes too - a major one being Kylo Ren, a young person on the dark side of the force, longing to become more powerful while wrestling with the internal struggles of good against evil. Almost a direct counterpoint to Luke's own struggles throughout the original trilogy, especially after finding out that his father was...

    Always a pleasure.
  17. Five from my list there. Sui, Liu, Eva, Natalie and Daisy. Buzzer beater for Michea too, courtesy of @ranaclyde. She wouldn't have made it if it hadn't been for the very last vote. Anyway, that's it for the time being. Next installment tomorrow.

We were outplayed for long periods on Saturday, but having an expert finisher (albeit one whose best days are behind him) can cover for so many deficiencies. Unfortunately, looking at the rest of our team, there's a hell of a lot to cover and if we lose to Swansea then really, you'd have to say we're back to square one. The positive spin is that we're no longer cut adrift with the prospect of some significant changes in personnel over the transfer window. That being said, bearing in mind the total lack of quality in most of our recent investments, the jury is going to be out for a while yet. For what it's worth, I thought the Villa fans were excellent, bringing plenty of support and getting behind their team. It's a shame that such a well supported club has been let down by its ownership.
