Oh, I wasn't really thinking of it specifically in those () terms either, just noting that Lara's physical design errs considerably more on the side of realistic these days. Alicia is rather slight of course, but it's believable to me that she could pack a punch if she wanted to and, most importantly, have a high amount of strength and endurance. Only thing that concerns me a bit is her posh British accent. Having seen her try one out in Testament of Youth, while it was by no means bad, it was pretty clear that she wasn't a native speaker.
  2. Thread cleaned and re-opened. Let's get back to the topic at hand.
  3. If reports are to be believed, you do get to see Doutzen Kroes stab a guy in this one. Can't comment on her acting abilities just yet, though.

The promotional material we've seen up to now is very reminiscent of the rebooted Tomb Raider games, which leads me to believe that Alicia will do fine. It would of course be much harder to find an actress to match Lara's original appearance. Even by video game standards, she was drawn in an exaggerated way that few women on earth would be able to visually represent.
  5. I'm looking forward to seeing how many people online call Diana a 'Mary Sue' without even the slightest hint of irony.
  6. My favourite thing about that was the supposed effort to organise male-only screenings of Last Jedi in December. The person leading that effort? The guy who led the campaign against Rogue One last December because of its supposed feminist agenda. So in short, his master plan for protesting the feminist agenda of one movie basically amounts to seeing another movie from a franchise that he's also criticised for having a feminist agenda. You really can't make this stuff up.
  7. I am quite partial to the aliens and magic aspect of DC's output, and honestly, the very fact that it features some relatively obscure superheroes and supervillains who rarely get the spotlight is in itself a bit of a draw too. Constantine, when not played by Keanu Reeves, is such a great character.
  8. The YouTube comments section is essentially the internet equivalent of purgatory, for people whose agonising stupidity got them banned from every forum with actual moderation and a sense of community. Spare a thought for the poor sods, they've no place else to go.

I'm thinking Sofia probably belongs in the actresses section these days. So many wonderful updates, though. Thanks @Shepherd
  10. That's the way it usually goes with shouty empty vessels and fake provocateurs. They become junkies for the outrage their statements cause and most addictions, when left unchecked, will escalate into a point of self-destruction. With that in mind, the tactic of "keep them talking until they say something really, really stupid" is mostly a safe bet. Until that happens though, being no-platformed is quite often what they thrive on, because none of them are especially articulate or particularly bright. It serves their narrative without the prospect of being subjected to real critical scrutiny.
  11. He might have to make do with getting elected president of his cell block instead.
  12. You know the world has taken a wrong turn somewhere when the news that a corrupt ex-Wall Street investment banker (now the political equivalent of Mrs Brown's Boys) is a person of interest in an FBI investigation comes as a surprise.

It's just been announced (and of course, strongly hinted at towards the end of the recent finale) that S3 is bringing with it a new villain, to be played by Odette Annable. Beyond her BZ thread, I don't know a great deal about Odette, but I'm pretty excited to see how Reign's arc will be adapted for the small screen. Although I must say, I hope they don't make her too different. Her comic book counterpart looks like a powerhouse and I'd hate for them to tone her down too much.

Here's the slightly odd Supergirl-themed Wonder Woman promo that aired during last week's season finale. All in good fun I guess, although it's a little sad for this to be the closest thing we'll likely ever get to a crossover between DC's movie and TV universes.

Other than occasionally forgetting her American accent, Katie can pretty much do no wrong in my eyes. She's very naturally enigmatic, which I always think lends itself well to the kind of role she's playing as Lena. Broadly speaking, I thought S2 was interestingly done and very tightly plotted as a whole. Few things happened or were brought into the show as one-offs and there was little in the way of filler, although I suspect a couple of things might have been added late in the day after the episode count was confirmed at 22 instead of the usual 20.

Considerable bummer that Floriana won't be a regular any more. I think the writers will be reluctant to have Maggie outright refuse the proposal though, because if Alex asks you to marry her, you accept, surely. Doubly so if you're standing on a balcony above a sheer drop at the time. With that in mind, I would perhaps expect Maggie to say yes, and then some kind of twist or subplot that for some reason means they can't be together to kick in afterwards.
  17. Holland acquitted himself so well in Civil War, the prospect of seeing more of his world got a whole lot more intriguing afterwards. More than anything though, I'm happy that we seem to be getting something very reminiscent of the Spectacular Spider-Man stories, which I always felt were the perfect balance of funny and serious for Peter.
  18. It's not paedophilia you guys, it's alt-noncing.

Had the exit of Thomas Tuchel been in any way on the cards, Fred? The announcement certainly came as a surprise to me this morning.
  20. Sorry, I should have clarified there that I was mainly thinking in terms of the standalone movies. The old Justice League Unlimited and Batman animated series (along with the X-Men and Spider-Man ones) were essentially my jumping off points for getting into comic books back in the day, but I remain a bit of a novice when it comes to the movie universe. I'd still like to try and see more, but even now, the sheer amount of stuff out there makes my head spin.
  21. Resurrection had a fantastic, out-of-the-box premise (that its version of Ripley is too alien to be human and too human to be alien, but still has to pick a side), although the absurdist vibe and almost slapstick violence make it a curious watch. Overall, the execution wasn't brilliant and it hasn't really aged that well.
  22. Third trailer just landed.
  23. Add that to the fact that Scarjo was recently named one of Hollywood’s highest grossing actors of all time and the very highest grossing actor of 2016, and pretty much any argument against it starts looking decidedly ramshackle. They even had a ready made premise after the whole "T'Challa told Ross what you did" thing in Civil War, but still wouldn't bite the bullet.
  24. Are you well versed in DC's animated universe? I'm not really familiar with a lot of it, but I wouldn't mind changing that.
