I found that odd... In most of the videos I've seen of her, she looks more or less the same as she does in her VS pictures. But I agree that she looks a lot thinner in those candids.

Even though he's not "that" famous as you say, I'd wager that quite a few more people would know the guy who played Legolas in one of the most popular movie franchises in cinematic history than some random VS model. That's not a knock on Miranda, it's just the reality of the difference in mainstream appeal between cinema and fashion.

Well Ale's English is certainly far superior to Adri's. Although I'd say that Candi's is better than both of them - not surprising a South-African I guess.

I just think supermodels were a perfect concept for that time - late 80s - but since then both the fashion industry and the mainstream have changed so significantly that it's unlikely to happen again. We should also not underestimate the fact that, besides the climate being perfect for it to happen at the time, we were also blessed with a crop of models who had the perfect blend of sexiness, mystique and class to catch the imagination of the public.

If Candice follows the KK scenario, than she'll be at her absolute apex next year. Giving her the bra in 2014 would be kind of silly.

Now that would just be f*cked up! I could see Rosie getting it even though Candice (again) and probably Ale will probably look like they should get it. Well I see your point with Transformers III coming out on July 1st... They can probably ride the coattails of the international promo campaign for that movie until November.

Well it's all very subjective and I wouldn't be making the South-African's case if she wasn't my favorite of the bunch. Having said that, I still think it's an odd tactic to promote the hell out of one model and then choose someone else for the highest "honor" at your marquee event. Frankly, it's like having one of the bridesmaids kiss the groom.

Well I think it's pretty well-established most of us are taking out of our derrières here. Not just in this thread either. Me, I just find it odd that Candice did not get the bra in spite of her high profile for VS this year and came in here hoping to find some clarification. I've certainly read some interesting opinions on the subject, though I very much doubt any one of them is the actual "truth".

Seeing as it is marked by our very own Vampire Horde, I'm pretty sure it is a repost.

Oh, well, my computer's been down for a little while so I only skimmed the last couple pages to catch up. But even then, I just saw rationales for why Candice didn't get the bra, not anything close to proof that she was never considered. I think trying to argue she was never considered is just silly. Well the argument several people above here made is that only the contracted Angels and "veterans" are considered. And I think the only exception anyone listed to that "rule" was KK in '02.

To use a sports analogy, VS is like a team that rides a player (Candice) hard all season long but then sits that player for the entire 4th quarter of the championship game (the VSFS) to put the ball in the hands of the wily veteran & former team star instead.

Apparently, it doesn't. Otherwise they would still exist. The sad reality is that they've been replaced by people like Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian...

I don't begrudge Adri the bra. To be quite frank, I hardly care who gets it. I just find it odd that they - as a rule - don't consider the model they have spearheaded many of their campaigns with this year. But the only thing I'm really hoping for in the case of Candice is that they at least give her better outfits than last year.

It does matter within the context of the show, since it's the unofficial mark of the "Alpha" girl that year.

When I said crossover appeal I actually meant that many people know more than just her face! I've heard sports talk radio hosts talk about her, she's been featured on countless celeb sites, ... If we were talking two or three years ago, I would have agreed about her being just another nameless VSFS face, but she's move far beyond that point.

I think you're seriously underestimating the cross-over appeal she's gained over the last twelve months. I've seen her pretty much everywhere.

I think I understand your reasoning behind VS' decision pattern. But it doesn't make much sense to me to be honest. It seems to me that it's a tactic that leads to them prominently featuring models after they are on the downward slope of their career. Wouldn't it have made more sense to give Adri the bra when she was at the apex of her popularity? Same with Candice now, if they don't give it to her this year or next year, she'll likely never again match this level of popularity. If I was making these decisions, my only criteria would be centered around which girl is the "hottest" in the media at the moment. Why they try to run away from the reality to uphold some arbitrary hierarchy is quite confusing to me. It certainly isn't a good business strategy.

So if Adri is the new Heidi, does that mean Candi will have to wait another 5+ years for her chance to shine?
