2016 was a year full of model births. First time mothers Candice Swanepeol, Behati Prinsloo and Chrissy Teigen gave birth to little Anacan, Dusty Rose and Luna, respectively.
Victoria’s Secret stunners Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Aldridge and Adriama Lima were spotted by paparazzi out and about with their gorgeous progeny.
Being a model and a mother is somewhat of a new trend, sure it’s been done before but many models were putting off having a family until their career wrapped up in their late 20s and early 30s. With careers spanning well into their 30s and beyond, these women no longer have the luxury of waiting. Models such as Lais Ribeiro and Jourdan Dunn had their children earlier in their careers, before becoming well established, while Candice and Behati earned Angel status before starting a family, oddly enough at nearly the same time. Victoria’s Secret must have slipped something in the water. While we’re over here praying for playdate photos, these model moms are back at work with Candice recently shooting for a major comeback sometime this spring.
There is no doubting that these hardworking women can do it all, be the best mothers to their children as well as work hard for the industry that nurtured them. Fashion has even embraced pregnant models walking the runway. Alessandra herself walked Sau Paulo Fashion Week while pregnant with Noah. Most notably, this year Irina Shayk debuted a baby bump on the VS runway. Chrissy Teigen and Hannah Davis Jeter even appeared in Sports Illustrated around the same time they started families of their own.
Gisele and Miranda make millions of dollars modeling while raising their children and flaunting their fab lives on social media. Doutzen, Isabeli, Heidi and Natalia have some of the cutest kids in or out of the fashion world. There is no shortage of proof that this will be an ongoing trend for years to come.
